About
The Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage site is a unique icon of seven centuries of Dutch water management. All phases of the history of our struggle against water are still visible here. The unique collection of 19 mills in an authentic Dutch landscape is a true eye catcher. With your ticket you'll have access to all visiting locations and tour boats for four hours. The Nederwaard Museum Mill shows how families lived and worked in our mills around 1900. At the Blokweer Museum Mill, you’ll experience what life was like in the fifties of last century. In the Overwaard Museum Mill and the adjacent education barn everything revolves around technology. Watch our multi-screen film in Secondary pumping station 'De Fabriek' and visit the historic Wisboom pumping station from 1868. Get on board of our tour boats and enjoy Kinderdijk from the water. Feel the wind, smell the water and listen to the sound of the windmills. The Kinderdijk World Heritage site is open almost the entire year!

The Windmill Presentation.
Dec 2020
In Amsterdam, we learned that the "water" is the "life blood" of the city for commerce and the tools to control the water are the keys to their future life.

The most interesting thing for me was that the family of the person who operated the Windmill also lives in the windmill. The control of the water with all of the tools (windmills, Locks & levies ) makes their continued existence possible.

Consider that most or all of the land in the Netherlands is below sea level. They move the water around to the benefit of everyone.

Parking shuttle nightmare
Sep 2021
Kinderdijk was not crowded but the small shuttle bus was full and only came every 30 minutes...to walk is 5km...so drove to the visitors centre...there is space for 15 cars...we were lucky got the last spot and paid again 7.5euro for parking...after that life was fine...can not imagine what this place would be like in Summer...entrance was 16euro each for the boat ride and looking inside the various buildings...we bought online the day before but it is not a prerequisite.

Kinderdijk with Snow! Amazing!
Feb 2021
As we live in The Hague in the cold February with snow we decided to go Kinderdijk with snow. It's such a cool experience you won't find anywhere else. It's so fun to skate on the frozen canal with hundreds of people. Of course for a tourist it's hard to be there exactly when there's snow but it's a magical experience I promise.

Fantastic
Jun 2021
We were lucky to visit on a day that was not busy. The volunteers who give the tours are amazing, knowledgeable, friendly and they love telling you everything about the place. Because there were so few people there it was like we were having private tours. We arrived far too early for our slot, but no problem, they were flexible. I can't wait to go back and see it in the winter.

Calming and Historical Visit of Dutch Windmils
Jul 2021
Calming and beautiful park for free; ticket gives you access to a boat, two museums, and two special windmills.
You can walk or bike to half of the windmills for free. There are two you can visit with your ticket (€16) that shows you life of a water miller during the 1800s. Pretty neat to check out.
Two boats included with your ticket includes a 30 minute tour with no stops, and one is a ferry that takes you to a secluded one. That one is more interesting as the guides talk you in more detail and give you tours of the windmills. All guides are excellent and can answer any question you may have.
The other two museums include a movie and the older (no obsolete) steam-powered watermills.
There's also a gift shop and café to lounge around.

sad experience
Feb 2020
I am an Asian and visited there with my mom September in 2019.
Unfortunately, we met racists there twice within two hours.
I guess they are local children and another was a man with family. Both were riding bicycle.
When they passed by us, they told us discriminatory words toward Asian.
I think they get used to doing it. Some asian's blog also mentioned they got the same experience. In my case, that was girls but some people got that experience from boys.
That was really sad experience. I felt that the local people enjoy racism although the staff working there were quit nice.

The humming of the windmill when on the inside. You should live that!
Feb 2020
A magic place in the world. I will always remember that experience as one of the best in my life. When on the interior of a windmill you will feel charmed, wondering how these people were living there.
You are not The Quijote, you don't need to fight against the windmills, however, they are so powerful and we are so small. And then is when you realize that the Quijote was mad.

Windmill village
Dec 2019 • Couples
Iconic images of the Netherlands with an array of windmills which are well-preserved along the canal. Some of the windmills are opened for visitors but the opening hours are not long.

Feels like stepping back in to history
Aug 2020
Only had a little time to spend here so only wandered around and got a close up look at several of the windmills which has no cost. Only need to buy tickets if you want to go in to the windmills or some of the other buildings on site. The condition of all the windmills was amazing considering how old they are. Two of them were turning in the wind as well. Could imagine what it would have been like to be in the area years ago when all the windmills would have been in operation. Well worth the visit. Would like to go back again when we have more time.
