About
The Vermeer Centrum Delft offers the visitor a discovery tour through the life, works and town of the 17th century master of light: Johannes Vermeer. The section 'Vermeer's world' shows you 17th century Delft. Wander through the famous 'View of Delft' and meet Vermeer's environment: his clients, his family and his rich mother-in-law. In Vermeer's world there are copies of all his paintings in their original size, an entire own world in his 37 works. Vermeer's atelier is dedicated to Vermeer's working methods. Discover how Vermeer mastered light in the light studio. Experiment with the camera obscura and play with colour, hidden views and perspective. And literally step into one of Vermeer's paintings. Many of the Delft painter Johannes Vermeer's paintings are about love. Sometimes it is obvious, but other times he subtly refers to it by painting certain objects or details. These objects and details can be seen in the exhibition 'Vermeer's love messages'. Learn to recognise the symbols in Vermeer's paintings. Besides a visit to the centrum, Vermeer can also be discovered on foot. An individual walk has been set out along all the highlights in Vermeer's life. The Vermeer Combiticket gives you access to all the locations.

We went there yesterday and spent less than 30 min inside. You can expect replicas of Vermeer, paintings inspired by Vermeer (meaning replicas with a modern touch) and more about Vermeer’s history. Save your time and money and just make a google search! The shop is the worst: they have (I kid you not) +40 books, all about Vermeer! How can you sell 40 different books about a painter??? The people before us left complaining. They should indicate that this is a replicas museum!

Unable to secure tickets to the special Vermeer exhibit at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, chose to visit this attraction in Delft as the next best thing. Very glad I did. After having experienced the mob of people at the Rijksmuseum (Rembrandt, not Vermeer), it was delightful to view the excellent video reproductions of all the known Vermeer paintings, carefully explained by an excellent audio guide. Side exhibits on Vermeer's innovative use of light and the symbolism in his paintings provided much-needed insights into his art. In addition, the historical context of Vermeer's work in Delft is carefully documented in the museum's exhibits on Delft. And, all of this without the distraction of mobs of tourists taking "selfies"!

This is a small, modern museum in central Delft dedicated to perhaps its most famous artist, Johannes Vermeer. We visited in April 2023. The museum does not include any original works by Vermeer, but there are reproductions and multiple displays about his life and times in Delft. The replica paintings were arranged in a line along the lower level, and each included information about its creation and themes. There are also displays about Vermeer’s artworks and techniques, including one table/display replicating the magnificent interior light demonstrated in many of his interior paintings.
Overall, a rather compact museum with ticket prices in line with other comparable institutions. Displays were in both Dutch and English. It was extremely busy when we visited, so many areas were crowded with people, which detracted from the experience. (We did visit during a holiday week.) Amenities included restrooms, lockers, and a large gift shop. There were no issues with photography. Recommended for art and history lovers.

One can start by watching a short wide-screen introductory video. Further on the ground floor there are copies of Vermeer's paintings with short descriptions and the audio guide also has further comments about some of them.
It's a pity that the original work is not on display, but it was still quite pleasant and educational to look at the copies of the paintings.
On the first and second floors there are more explanations of how Vermeer used for example perspective, space, colour and lighting, but unfortunately I didn't really have enough to work through these in detail.
There is also a shop (and toilets and lockers) on the ground floor selling some memorabilia (I bought some serviettes).
Overall worth the visit and the €12 entry fee.

Vermeer is strongly connected with Delft and when you want to learn more about this outstanding Artistik, the Vermeer Center is the place to be. The Exhibition is very good made, with audioguide, interactive stations and more. The personnel is very kind and helpfull. For Children you can make a little quiz with a nice price, when you did it right, great!!!

This museum is a must if you visit Delft. With a six minute film at the start to introduce to Vermeer’s Delft through to the recorded commentary that you can listen to as you progress through the exhibition. Excellent, spotlessly clean facilities and friendly staff. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We visited the day before going to The Hague where we saw Girl With a Pearl Earring. Great way to learn about Vermeer, including the history of art during his time, his use of light, his benefactor and financial history, and to see reproductions of his work. A couple interactive activities, too. Good gift shop. Lockers on ground floor.

Delft is an absolutely delightful town on the outskirts of The Hague, the Dutch capital. You can breathe an atmosphere of times gone by, among old buildings, gardens, canals and bridges. It is also the birthplace of the famous Flemish painter Vermeer, to whom the small museum center is dedicated. This, located next to the largest city square, is easily accessible and can be visited in a short time. Very well set up and looked after, it also offers the possibility of following the route with an ear guide in Italian. Unfortunately, not even one of the thirty-five original works attributed to the great painter is present. We must therefore be satisfied with their reproductions, which are masterfully executed and exhibited, as well as other objects, paintings and drawings, all linked to Vermeer or his era. A quite pleasant and informative visit, overall.

It is very interesting.
However the set up of the whole exhibition is not the best. All the reproduction of the paintings are on the same floor. With the audioguides and the videos it gets a bit loud easily and crowded since that's where all the visitors spend most of their time.
The rest of the exhibition was not super interesting to us, I guess you must know your art better to enjoy the technicalities but I am sure it finds its audience.

Having had a good walk around Delft we went to the Vermeer exhibition. Here we could then see the places we had visited in the Vermeer pictures.
There was an excellent display and explanation of the use of light, and lots of details about the paintings and his style of painting.
There were videos to watch as well.
This was a well laid out exhibition and although we are not art crazy we really enjoyed the way this was simply but well explained and found it very enjoyable.

For the combo ticket, is there a start time for the vermeer cube walk or is it self guided? If self guided, approximately how long would it take? Thanks.
Written 17 March 2019
The cube walk is indeed self guided and will take up to approximately 2 hours. A visit at the Vermeer Centre takes about max 1.5 hours and there an audio guide is included in the price.

Можно ли в этом центре купить репродукцию картины Вермеера (небольшого размера)?
Written 14 February 2019
Yes, we have reproductions of several of his paintings for sale in our shop.
Written 18 February 2019
Helaas niet. Dit omdat we geen museum status hebben. Wel bieden we een korting van € 2,00. Hopelijk tot ziens!
