About
The Koppelpoort is a city gate in Amersfoort. It is a combination of land and water gate. The name is probably derived from the East Middle Dutch word Coppel meaning meadow

The old city merchant gate, the Koppelpoort was built in the early 1400’s and has distinct medieval design. Popular with local and international tourists, this UNISCO historic site is worth the visit. Combine it with a city tour and discover this amazing city

One of the three remaining city gates or historic Amersfoort is the 'Koppelpoort'. it is the most impressive gate because of the inlet to the city of the river Eem. The waterworks around this gate and the renovated Eemplein around this part of the river...More

Part of the old city wall across the river Eem with a combined gate for road and river traffic. Kept in good repair. Photogenic.

Amersfoort is very nice place to visit. Especially if you like medivial places, you should see it. Its very peaceful, there are nice cafes and restaurants around. During summer, sitting near Koppelpoort and watching the sunset is highly recommended! :)

Beautifully historical landmark from the Middle Ages. Amersfoort is a hidden gem in Holland, massively overshadowed by the over-rated crowded and dirty city of Amsterdam.

This historic landmark is a must see when visiting the historic centre of Amersfoort. Just include it in a nice walk along and/or through the town. I can certainly recommend a walk in the evening as well when it is beautifully lit.

I had received a brochure from my hotel so I had a brief description of where to find the gate and that it was built in the 1400. Quite impressive indeed and would suggest a visit. It is quite easy to find and you could...More

Actually, I think Amersfoort makes a better base to stay than Amsterdam (and it's so much cheaper). If you are in Amsterdam with limited time, conversely, I am not sure I would choose Amersfoort (sorry) as a day trip... More
