Amersfoort is very nice place to visit. Especially if you like medivial places, you should see it. Its very peaceful, there are nice cafes and restaurants around. During summer, sitting near Koppelpoort and watching the sunset is highly recommended! :)
Ever wanted to see a gateway to an old city: come see this gate. Not just a walkway but also a waterway! Incredible and amazing building. Still in original condition. Beautiful!

This historic landmark is a must see when visiting the historic centre of Amersfoort. Just include it in a nice walk along and/or through the town. I can certainly recommend a walk in the evening as well when it is beautifully lit.

Actually, I think Amersfoort makes a better base to stay than Amsterdam (and it's so much cheaper). If you are in Amsterdam with limited time, conversely, I am not sure I would choose Amersfoort (sorry) as a day trip... More
Actually, I think Amersfoort makes a better base to stay than Amsterdam (and it's so much cheaper). If you are in Amsterdam with limited time, conversely, I am not sure I would choose Amersfoort (sorry) as a day trip -- there are other Dutch cities that are far more interesting.
