    Beautiful area
As we had our car, we thought we would spent a morning driving through this area which was just beautiful - we had to keep stopping to have a look. The hyacinth fields were almost over but the tulips were stunning. Easy to stand at the edge of the fields to take some photos but don't be the person who wanders into the flowers.

    Spectacular experience!
Spectacular experience! Checked this off my bucket list! We visited on April 8th and the tulips were in full bloom in most fields. Did a self guided bike tour , rented bikes for outside the Keukenhof gardens rental Stand. Was fairly easy to follow the map. Definitely need to be a good biker to be able to do this.

ROUTE + MAP flower bulb cycling
Cycling routes around the flower bulbs are something you can map out yourself but it’s perhaps quicker and easier to follow a preset route. Rent-a-bike Van Dam has 4 preset routes, they all start and end at the keukenhof but you can join the route from any numbered point on the map (see picture). The blue route takes you around the perimeter of the keukenhof, is 5 km long and will take you about 30 mins, without any stopping that is. The purple route is 10 km and will take you through bulb fields as well as Lisse town center, it is about 45 mins of cycling time, again, more stops will increase this time. The green route is the hard core Dutch scenery and flower bulb central route, with 15 km it should take about an hour to complete (stops not included in this time). The red route also takes you through the dunes as well as a lot of flower bulbs, it is about 25 km and should take about 2 hours. If I was cycling this route myself I would definitely make sure to have at least one coffee break somewhere in the middle, but hey, that is up to everyone’s personal preference of course. There is also a QR code that will allow you to follow the routes on GPS on your phone. If you are going to do this it would be a very good idea to get a phone mount to attach it to the bike steer/handle bars. It will allow for much easier cycling and will keep you abiding the law at the same time as it is not allowed to cycling with a phone in your hand. Doing so can result in a steep fine from the local law enforcement. The best time for the cycling around the flower bulb fields is in the month of March.

The fields are everywhere, must be hundreds of acres and they're a sight that must be seen. It's sad in a way because 90% of the blooms are discarded to promote bulb growth.

We hired a car to drive to Deflt and kept off the main road so we could drive through the bulb growing fields. Serried ranks of fabulous bulbs with the scent from hyacinths.

Wonderful to rent a car and meander around to find rows of color popping up in fields throughout the region. We also very much enjoyed the Flower Parade and seeing the float preparations ahead of time in Sassenheim. Would also recommend visiting a tulip farm such as The Tuliperij for more information about tulip farming and to see fields up close.

Very impressive views of various bulb fields which extends from Leiden to Haarlem from North Holland and northern South Holland.

The area includes Keukenhof flower garden, which in itself is worth seeing and can take around 4 hours to visit

After two years of absence due to covid, the annual flower parade has returned in 2022. Named the Bloemencorso in Dutch, it is a spectacle of adorned large cars, competing for the award of most beautiful car. Very worthwhile to see in April!

Every year begin the fields with the daffodil in march and then the hyacinth in april and then the tulip from april to end may, depend on the weather. As this year it was still cold in march, the tulip was a bit late. It's been two years in a row that the flower garden "Keukenhof" was closed due to the pandemic. But this year in april, there were three open days for limited visitors ( corona test mandatory ). The open bulb fields area is free to visit though some farmers would not be happy when you get in the field and walking among the flowers for selfie.

In springtime (April and early May) huge and colorful fields of commercially grown bulb flowers in the Bollenstreek - say between Katwijk and Hillegom. You can organize your own tour by car or bicycle. But don’t walk into the flowers to take a selfie! The flower farmers hate it when herds of tourist start doing this.
