Haarlem is only about a 20-30 minute train ride from Amsterdam, and there are many trains throughout the day. If you like the work of Hals, then it is well worth a day trip to cute Haarlem. The museum has some excellent works by Hals and his contemporaries. And Haarlem is well worth some exploration.

Interesting assortment of classic Dutch paintings, not just Frans Hals, together with other artifacts, enhanced with beautiful flower displays at this time.

This is a shrine to the extraordinary art of Frans Hals. The highlight is a room that features 4 massive group portraits by Hals in one room. That is an experience one will never have elsewhere in the world.

If you want to see more classic Dutch art, or are a fan of Frans Hals, this is the place for you. If you had enough, the little museum might seem a bit dull. The street on which the museum is located is very nice, so at least take a walk and decide once you get there.

Good collection of work by the Dutch artist, members of his family and countrymen. Lovely spacious rooms which at the time of our visit had beautiful floral arrangements.

Frans Hals, that I consider the impressionist of the Renaissance, was born in today Belgium (Antwerpen) but worked and died in Haarlem (that by the way gave the name to Harlem in old New Amsterdam, today's New York). The number of paintings from Hals is not big but a significant number of Guard paintings, plus some amazing small paintings (I... More

If you have the time and/or desire, take the regional train or bus (#300 from Schiphol) to Haarlem to visit the Frans Hals Museum. The museum has about 28 rooms displaying the largest collection of paintings by Frans Hals as well as paintings of other Dutch masters from Haarlem's Golden Age. The informative audio guide is included in the admission... More

If you like your art, this is a must see when visiting Haarlem. I would say that this exhibition is old masters and not abstract art.

Great little hidden gallery in a lovely historic building - make sure to get the audio tour and allow quite a bit of time.
