We saw the fort outside of Beemster. There are forty two of them scattered around the country. This one has been converted into a spa. While it was still nice to see it lost its significance.

Pampus is a part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. It is an artificial island and late 19th Century sea fort located in the IJmeer, near Amsterdam and it protected the Ij bay and the harbour of Amsterdam. This ruins is well kept and it is open for visitor. There is a guided tour too. One of the rooms is used for a party. After walking around through all the rooms connected by passageway and sometimes in the dark, you will be impressed knowing how this place ever used during the war. It was a litle bit raining and cold that day so we stopped in the restaurant and having a cup of tea

Amsterdam's history right before your eyes. There is so much to see and learn from the history of the Netherlands right here. Well maintained as well for the tourists to visit.

With 46 fortresses around Amsterdam this should be a sight to see. Sadly, most of the forts are only opened in September during their “special week/month” or on very rare occasions every other time. Some of the forts I passed by were turned into wine cellars, resorts or art galleries. I would have liked to see some information boards at each place and I definitely would have liked to see them more open and with a real museum attached to it. The Fortress museum south of Amsterdam might be the place for facts, but as far as I can tell, it only shows part of the history behind the Defense line of Amsterdam. The island fort is more open, but with limited time its hard to visit.

Where exactly is Fort Pampus located? Is it the same as Fort Veldhuis? What are the opening hours?
