A group of did this canal cruise last week and it was fairly disappointing. Upon arrival we were greeted with the prospect of being split into single seats throughout the boat. We did not pay all that money to be spread around amongst strangers! When asking if we could get the next boat, we were told rather rudely that the... More

The canal tours are a great way of seeing a lot of what the city has to offer. The tours are given in a few languages in turn so you don't have to find a language specific tour. The tour lasts about an hour and points out most of the main tourist attractions as well as giving history about the... More

We booked through Viator, which had provided good overviews in Berlin and Munich previously. Canal cruise was on the Grey Line, total 1 hour and provided a good city overview which we like to do on the first day getting acquainted with a new place. This offer included a "Skip the Line" all-day voucher to the Van Gogh museum which... More

The evening canal cruise was a wonderful way to see the city and the canals all lit up. A totally different perspective during the evening vs. an afternoon cruise (which we did as well). The staff was very nice and the wine and cheese selection was very good.

Just go back from canal tour with the kin- boat company (tour like a local) which was very good. There were just six of us on the boat which could take more the captain asked us if there was anywhere particular we wanted to go we all agreed to leave it to him. For about ninety minutes he was both... More

This is a great introduction to the city, and a nice activity for your jet-lagged first day. The dock is conveniently located next to the train station and tram stops, and you can buy your ticket on board. This interesting tour takes you through the port and canals, a relaxing way to enjoy the gorgeous architecture.

The buses and boat rides are really not the way to go in Amsterdam. The time you spend waiting and the speed of the transport really takes away from what you can see especially if you are on a budget of time or money. The maps they offer with the tours are awful. You will see people all over the... More

Staying in Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)

Neighbourhood Profile
Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as historically significant as it is perennially popular. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, shutterbug, or fashionista, odds are you’ll find the Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the Grachtengordel (Canal Ring). A brilliant place to get lost in a moody meander and a key component to any sightseeing trip to Amsterdam, this area's major draws include the Anne Frank House, the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market, an enviable assortment of independent boutiques along De Negen Straatjes, and of course all of Grachtengordel’s lovely canals and bridges.
