This 1.8 km long inner canal w/ 9 bridges used to be a moat around the fortified city between 1480-1585 and runs from the Prins Hendrikkade to the Mint Square/Amstel River in the historical center of Amsterdam. It also features many of the characteristic monumental...More
If a short trip then then hop on hop off boat is a must. If you have time there are wonderful day trips from Amsterdam. We would have loved to have done the Windmill tour into the country area.
The innermost of the canals encircling the centre of Amsterdam, this is a great canal to either walk beside or take a boat trip along, viewing the beautiful Dutch houses with their variety of gables and all the house boats moored along the banks. At...More
Canal boats sail this canal so it is a busy place. In addition it is filled with house boats of all types and descriptions. The houseboats add to the beauty of the homes and businesses located canal side. As other writers have noted, when walking...More
we loved walking here, we planned our routes to take in lots of canals, but beware of bicycles. Especially lovely at night when the lights reflect off the water.
A great way to see the city to know where you might like to visit later. Relaxing and a better way to understand the culture of house boats and bicycles.
Having a tour or sitting by the side , Singel is amazing . Looking around and seeing the buildings of and different places on the sides . Love to sit around sunset.
We loved this beautiful, tree lined canal as we walked through Amsterdam. Our canal tour did not take us through this area, but we explored via foot to get to the Centrum.
Yet another great canal to see while on the canal cruises. As usual you see some amazing houses along the canal which are talked about on the running commentary of the boat PA system
