If you visit Amsterdam for more than one day, you should visit this brewery, because this place is typically Dutch. The beer is tasty, but you'll love it not just because of that but because of atmosphere, many foreign tourists and cheese/sausages menus.

My favorite beer pub / micro brewery! The best beer a definite must for anyone who likes beer! Go early, it closes at 20:00.

Met up with a few friends where the bar is situated attached to the Windmill de Gooyer. Seems to be a local spot although quite touristy given it is on the Hop on Hop Off bus route. A variety of ales are available and wine. No spirits are served at the establishment. Overall a nice place to visit and have... More

I would have to echo the comments of others, that the beer is good, but the service is terrible. I had a similar experience to "Louise P" a few weeks ago. My partner and I went in to order a tasting paddle on our day of cycling to various city landmarks. I went on in and asked at the bar... More

We visited to sample their beer tasting selection. On arrival, we ordered 2 drinks to start and found a table. I went to order some food whilst my Husband went back to the bar to order the €9 beer sampler (5 small beers in a wooden holder). The lady before me in the food queue picked up a small glass... Poor service. My bartender refused to let me order the beer tasting menu. But the other bartenders served it to other people. Only reason I went there was to taste the different beers.

nice atmosphere, but the place is very crowded during the afternoon. Beer is decent, but bartenders are below par.

Still going strong after all these years. Produces its own beer - brewed on the premises - and they serve a flight of beer so you get the chance to sample a wide range. Only open from 14.00 to 20.00.

Brouwerij Het IJ at the eastern border of the 17th-century city is settled in the building next to the highest windmill of Amsterdam, "De Gooier", until 1860-70 just outside the built-up area in the meadows, near water. See Van Gogh's painting of this landscape. The miller, an uncle of Vincent van Gogh, received him in, I believe, 1879 when this... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
