One of the most beautiful zoo I visited! Many different animals, super clean and lots of flowers and plants on top of the large number of animals. You can spend an entire day to visit it all. It's a bit expensive, but really worth it. I recommend to buy your tickets on-line to avoid long line. There's also a parking... More

I normally hate zoos but all the animals in this one seemed happy and well cared for. There was loads to see and do, easily spent a whole day here. We actually walked to the zoo from the city centre which was quite far but a nice walk - there is a tram stop just round the corner which we... More

A well managed zoo with excellent planting which made the cages seem larger than they probably were - and historic buildings as a bonus.

First I'll start of with the price. It is a little bit pricey to go entry for zoo + Micro + Map was like 60 euros for 2 adults and you only get like a euro discount online per ticket. But that aside the zoo is a great place to visit. Lots of animals to see and lots to do.... More

Such a great trip. So many different things to see, defiantly the best zoo I've been too. A lot of walking but worth it!

I have to say that I'm not really a 'zoo' type person and after reading a few reviews on here I was also a bit sceptical about visiting the zoo. But I was very pleasantly surprised, the zoo I've very clean, tidy and not smelly. It's really nice to see more than one breed of animal in different enclosures. All... More

Some of the exhibits seem easy for some unsupervised kids to run in. I am also quite surprised at their decision to house 3 lions in that small space. I expected more effort and thoughts put into in educating visitors about the animals, or providing meaningful interactions for public. I left without exploring the whole zoo. Families might like it... More

We visited this zoo after having recently visited another zoo in England. We were expecting a very similar experience however it was completely different! The animals were very unique and so interactive which was something we didn't receive as much at the other zoo! It was quite small however easy to get round in a decent amount of time and... More

It is a beautiful zoo and a must visit with the kids. One can observe lions, hunting dogs, elephants and various animals from close. The wallabies are freely roaming about in one particular park. The feeding times for sea lions and hunting dogs makes it more interesting. The must do also include sea lions, butterfly park, aquarium, small farm which... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
