The Royal Palace Amsterdam is in use by the Dutch Royal House. Most of the year, the Royal Palace is alsof open for visitors. You are welcome to discover the rich history and interior of this magnificent building in the heart of Amsterdam. Visitors are welcome to discover the building's rich past and legacies left by it's successive occupants - as Amsterdam's Town Hall for 150 years, the French Royal and Imperial Palace for 5 years and the Palace of the House of Orange for the past two centuries. The Royal Palace was built in the seventeenth century as the Town Hall of Amsterdam, after a design by Jacob van Campen. It's paintings and sculptures were made by some of the most distinguished artists of the time and allude to the city's influence and prosperity in the Dutch Golden Age. In 1808 Louis Napoleon, brother of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, became King of Holland and converted the Town Hall into a Palace. The superb collection of Empire furniture, clocks and chandeliers date from that period. The collection of Empire furniture is one of the best preserved and most complete collections in the world. The rooms in the Palace are decorated with artworks from the collection of the House of Orange-Nassau Historic Collections Trust. Many paintings show the various members of the family of Orange-Nassau

We have been to Amsterdam several times but have never visited the royal palace before. We really enjoyed our visit and felt that the audio tour was very well done, explaining each room as you went round, giving you enough information, but also offering an...More

While everyone was hitting the Van Gogh and Rijks, we ventured into the Royal Palace without a hitch. The establishment still functions for state affairs, but open to tourists most of the year. As an historical building with many stories and events associated to it,...More

An interesting look inside an active royal building, the interactive audio guide is a must and comes as part of the 10 euro per adult price. The guide you point at particular points in rooms/exhibits and you are given their history/background. Not a royalist in...More

Excellent! Delivers a great insight into some aspects of Dutch history and especially Louis Bonaparte's impact. Relatively inexpensive to get in, and would recommend the superb audio guides (free) as they really enhance the experience. You also get to walk though the gallery where Churchill...More

We didn’t even go inside the Royal Palace. We were captivated with the pigeons. People had brought bread with them and a flock of pigeons flew in many directions with any sudden steps. I advise you do the same and capture the moment on film...More

This was such a fantastic surprise. From beginning to the end this was definitely one of the most interesting place to visit. Everyone receives a audio device, you click on to each separate area that you desire to hear about. They still use this palace...More

Yes I do admire sleek architecture and yes, I love a good history lesson. The audio was very detailed and the architecture took a lot of admiration. Lots of rooms but unless you have loads of time, spending too long listening to the audio guide...More

This was my first time in the Palace. I used my museumkaart to get in. The tour comes with an audio piece that tells you about many parts of the Palace. It is interesting to learn about the history of the rooms. You can see...More

Right next to Royal Palace, is the lane Kalverstraat with many restaurants. Right across it, is another area littered with places to eat. I doubt you will have issues finding a place to eat nearby. Enjoy!
