About
The Royal Palace Amsterdam is in use by the Dutch Royal House. Most of the year, the Royal Palace is alsof open for visitors. You are welcome to discover the rich history and interior of this magnificent building in the heart of Amsterdam. Visitors are welcome to discover the building's rich past and legacies left by it's successive occupants - as Amsterdam's Town Hall for 150 years, the French Royal and Imperial Palace for 5 years and the Palace of the House of Orange for the past two centuries. The Royal Palace was built in the seventeenth century as the Town Hall of Amsterdam, after a design by Jacob van Campen. It's paintings and sculptures were made by some of the most distinguished artists of the time and allude to the city's influence and prosperity in the Dutch Golden Age. In 1808 Louis Napoleon, brother of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, became King of Holland and converted the Town Hall into a Palace. The superb collection of Empire furniture, clocks and chandeliers date from that period. The collection of Empire furniture is one of the best preserved and most complete collections in the world. The rooms in the Palace are decorated with artworks from the collection of the House of Orange-Nassau Historic Collections Trust. Many paintings show the various members of the family of Orange-Nassau

I'm not into royalty, but I am very.much into history. My wife and I did the audio tour. Interesting and informative. Reviewed by Miles A. of Boca Raton, FL.

A very good audio tour even if I did foolishly listen to the children’s version. It’s a beautiful palace and I wish I had more knowledge gained from the grown-up audio guide.

Decided to go in here last minute, to kill time before a tour. Bought tickets at the desk, card only. 25 euros for 2 and a free audio tour. Can't take bags in and there's a free cloakroom, but saw other people with bags. You can't exactly knock anything over or even steal anything, as everything is behind perspex or rope barriers...
Beautiful interior, which wouldn't suspect from the dark exterior. Worth a visit if you're interested in Dutch royalty or need to get out of the rain... But I wouldn't bother again.

We loved this self-guided tour! Very organized, easy to follow along and this is a beautiful museum with amazing art, furniture and history of Amsterdam and the royal families. Easy to access, check in and no need to make reservations ahead of time. Plenty of space to go at your own speed and enjoy all the beauty of this building and the artifacts.

The Royal Palace is one of the largest and most prestigious buildings in Amsterdam, located on Dam Square in the old city center. An audio guide is provided as part of the price of admission and provides an excellent overview of the royal family and their reception palace. The palace is definitely worth a visit while in Amsterdam.

Beautiful Palace in Dam Square, absolutely stunning interiors. Well set out and hand held audio description was very good. Staff very friendly and approachable. Good value for money. Definitely go early as it gets busy quite quickly. Took us just over an hour to get around the whole tour.

Located just off dam square is this truly palatial structure, built in the 1600's in the Dutch Baroque style, excellent spot for selfies especially at night

Entrance to the palace is only 10 euros and it is well worth it. It includes a free audio tour that is offered in multiple languages and it gives an in depth explanation of basically everything inside the palace. If you have kids with you, don't worry, they have an audio tour for them too that is story based.
It is a very grand place to be and the intricacies in the stonework are incredible. Everything has meaning and the symbolism runs deep.
Definitely don't sit this one out!

Are there lines to get in? Do you need advance tickets?

We did buy our tickets from home. Not many people when we arrived. We were there on a Thursday around noon and we went straight in, no waiting at all.
I did not see any line at all at the ticket counter.

No unfortunately the palace does not have lockers. At least I did not see any. This is still a palace that is USED by the royal family--so think of it as a "home".

Hola!! Imagino que no tendrás ningún problema, sólo que debes subir el carrito por las escaleras y eso es un poco engorroso. Pero por lo demás, podrás disfrutar tranquilamente.
Saludos!!

How long does it take to tour the palace once you are inside?

I bought the audio guide and had a firm stop of 1 hour before I had to head to the train station. You are able to skip some sections at your own pace. I am glad I went.
