About
Hidden in the heart of the city centre of Amsterdam is a small wonder: Our Lord in the Attic Museum. Visitors will be going on a journey in a unique well-preserved canal house from the 17th century. Narrow corridors and stairs lead to historically decorated living quarters, kitchens and bedsteads, ending in what is literally the highlight of the museum: a complete church in the attic.

Not many houses have a full blown church in the attic. This one does, which is what makes it fairly unique! The intriguing background as to how this all came about is fully explained in the detailed audio guide which is included in the entrance fee. Some of the rooms are not overly interesting, but have to be navigated, along with the considerable number of steps, to reach the church which is well preserved and is the undoubted highlight. The entrance fee is far from cheap but that seems to be the case for many museums here.

This hidden gem in Amsterdam is a must-visit place for tourists, especially those who have a strong interest in history and architecture. I had an exciting opportunity to learn how the church was established inside the house and what a hook near the roof is used for! The audio guide is also helpful in understanding its detailed history. The cafe on the ground floor was a small but cosy place.

I read a lot about Amsterdam attractions before visiting a few times, but this one never came up in any searches. My friend recommended it to me, for which I'm very grateful. It is not only a very well-preserved 17th century house, but at the attic, there is a hidden church. After Amsterdam became protestant City and Catholicism was banned, some people converted their attics into churches. It is a very unique place. The audio guide gives a lot of valuable information. As not many people know about it, it is not crowded. The staff is also very nice and helpful. The ticket is a bit on the expensive side (16.50 euro) but I think that the museum is privately owned and the money is needed to keep it going.

We visited at 3pm and spent about 80 minutes in this museum.
It was well laid out ( although the stairs are very narrow) and thought provoking. We absolutely loved seeing all the rooms leading to the masterpiece in the attic.
This is a must see when visiting Amsterdam.
The information audio guide was great and worked in all the rooms. There is a small cafe and toilet facilities.
Thank you for maintaining this lovely building for future generations.

This old house belonged to a very wealthy linen merchant. It's been beautifully restored and will show you what life was like for rich people centuries ago. The church is massive and shows how dedicated the Catholics were to their faith. The admission fee is reasonable and the included audio system is very informative and interesting. This is one of the best tourist attractions we have visited in Amsterdam.

Had an idea what to expect as we had researched prior to our visit, but have to say it still surprised us. The audio guide was simple to operate and really brought the rooms back to life . At times you could imagine what it was like looking out of the windows centuries ago and living in a very different Amsterdam. So pleased that the authenticity had been retained where possible, and reconstructed in a transparent way when not. The gaudy colour of the church was surprising until the audio guide explained that it was in fact true to the day.
The gift shop although small was not full of the usual rubbish, we came away with some quality reasonably priced souvenirs.

Surprisingly nice. The museum consists of an old catholic church that was built in the attic of a merchant's home when the Netherlands had turned protestant and protestantism took over catholic churches. Many things about the church are seemingly intact from when it was built in the mid 1600s. You also get to see a little of how the owners lived since the church was in their home.
The museum provides an audio guide (no extra charge) which will give you an explanation to each room. The museum is well organized with clear signs and numbering of each audioguide spot. I spent slightly over 1h here, visited all the rooms and listened to everything the audio guide offered. The museum also has a small café, toilets and a small gift shop and from the windows on the upper floor you can get a fair view of Amsterdam.

The museum spans several floors with many narrow and steep stairs so unfortunately if you have difficulties walking or climbing stairs- this is not for you.
Otherwise, it's highly recommended.

This is a really well set out museum, starting in the building across the alley from where you head under the alley and into the cellar of the main building. The route through the building is well ordered with no real crossing over of routes.

The museum gets better the further you go in, with the crowning glory of the chapel right at the top. The audio guide is a must, as you get additional information and things like an example of the hidden pulpit being operated.

Exciting to experience this "secret" church on top of a typical Amsterdam town house. The visit is very well organized with an introduction, guided around the house and with an audio guide that worked perfectly. Afterwards you can have a cup of coffee and a piece of cake or a sandwich in the small cafe. Can only be recommended!

❤️🇳🇱 We loved this! I took my four year old son, and he loved the “hidden” aspect of the church. The museum has a fun activity to have children find hidden lady bugs with a flashlight, so he was occupied and entertained the entire time. The audio players were informative. Just a few hundred feet from the basilica—-also with a visit!
