This area in the oldest part of Amsterdam is known for the red neon windows that display barely-dressed prostitutes advertising their services; it's all perfectly acceptable as long as it stays inside this designated area of the city.

We visited The Red Light district every day of our visit, it is smaller than expected but the best thing about it is the things to do, rather than see. All the girls are your stereotypical red light girls. However it’s the bars and attractions...More

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when we went there and we stumbled across it at 11am and what I saw I couldn’t believe. It wasn’t for me this area I felt very embarrassed and uncomfortable and this was during the day. I can’t...More

Very entertaining and an eye opener. It is what you expect.. women in the windows with very little clothes on, my husband was in his element!! There is a peep show on the red light district which is 2 euros. This is not something I...More

A must see when in Amsterdam. I was not too sure what to expect but found the short time spent walking around in this area quite pleasant. It's a good place to do a little window shopping.

The red light district is dormant in the day time. While it’s quiet it’s worthing roaming the area for cafes and bars for a relaxing drink and a light snack. The red light district at night is very busy with the hustle and bustle of...More

Nothing really special about this place. Doesn't have the same feeling like 10-15yrs or so. It has gotten smaller in time. But still worth a visit if your in town.

And I'm NOT a prude. I get that the thought is you control the activity and collect the revenue but it's still estimated up to 90% human trafficking going on. I've been down there both in the day and the evening and I just find...More

Would I recommend this place? All depends on what sort of person you are and what interests you and whether you get offended or not. If you like erotica and to a certain extent seediness, by all means get your kicks. If it is the...More

Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist
temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some

There's a lot to do in Amsterdam and a lot of beautiful things to see so avoid red light there's really no point and have a walk between the canals all around the town.

Fridays and Saturdays the district is packed, it gets a tiny bit quieter on Sundays, even in high season, so it would definitely make sense. Besides, following the pack, touring the neighborhood caravan-style up and down the... More
