Beautiful paintings. I recommend pre booking tickets and the audio guide. Only downside are the crowds regardless of what time of year. Due to crowds, not the best place for young children.

A beautiful space with an easy to navigate and massive collection of Van Gogh's works. I recommend going on Friday nights after 7pm; in addition to no line, they set up bars in two of the main lobbies and have a art film and DJ playing until 10pm. The museum takes on a cool cocktail lounge/club vibe - an awesome... More

Absolutely loved this museum. It houses such an amazing collection which is displayed beautiful in a very modern space. If you are limited on time in Amsterdam I would make this one of your top priorities when choosing things to visit. I'd really recommend booking tickets online in advance, we avoided queuing completely.

I truly felt the spirit of Van Gogh and especially got much from our tour guide. To understand the artist himself, and then see his art added depth I never could have experienced on my own. Go on a less than crowded mid day and I recommend having a guide.

This is an amazing museum of Van Gogh's art. All the paintings that you've learned about in school, seen in books, etc. are on display. They are so amazing to see in real life and up close and in person. Take the hop on/hop off bus or boat tour - it will drop you off close by for a short... More

So there was quite a few paintings and the exhibits were good however there was nothing interactive, I expected a bit more.

My husband has difficulty walking, we read on the website that there were folding chairs available for use, but we soon realised that the museum was bigger than anticipated, so the staff kindly produced a wheelchair, which made life easier. We were able to 'jump' the queue, because he could not stand, and the staff could not have been more... More

Amazing that the museum makes visitors queue in the cold and rain what a welcome. They could easily manage indoors with the space they have. The story of Van Gogh is interesting but repeats more than once as the tour progresses. A must see in Amsterdam only if you are a Van Gogh fan otherwise not worth the price of... More

The Van Gogh Museum is one of the most efficiently and logically organized museums we have ever visited. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to visit again.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
