This was an excellent museum to see. However it was very crowded when we went in the morning and only was able to see one part because we didn't feel like fighting crowds. However it is a must see in Amsterdam

I really enjoyed this museum but I was hoping to see the starry night but it wasn't there. It's layed out well and has interesting descriptions and tidbits about Van Gogh's life as an artist. If you're into art I recommend it. I was with a few friends and one wasn't into art and he was totally bored.

You can't beat seeing Van Gogh artwork for real. Those sunflowers are really amazing. But also many of his other works are lovely/fabulous/surprising too. You can trace his work by different stages of his life and that's interesting. You can hire audio guides but to me this would take away from just looking at the wonderful paintings. Also its actually... More

With so many options for museums, this is not to be missed. It has just the right amount of work were you won't get bogged down or feel rushed. You can definitely see it all in a few hours and then take a walk in the park nearby.

Have been a lover of Goghs work and this museum didn't let me down! Set out very well and you learn a lot about him, and the relationship between him and his brother! Shop is great- pre warning you will have to put any bags in the cloakroom as they don't allow any at all!!

Massive que first day so decided to get there earlier next day at 930 and was able to walk in. Interesting, not much into art, but liked reading about him and loved some of the paintings.

We visited the Van Gogh museum at 3pm, it was still quite busy at this time, with a short queue to get in the door. We had pre booked tickets. It was amazing to see so many painting by the famous painter, I had no idea there were so many. Definitely worth a visit, and worth the ticket price to... More

This is a large, modern museum, it breaks down Van Gogh's life and works chronologically over 3 floors. It's a joy to walk around, obtain an audio guide which makes the visit all the more worthwhile. Our 2 teen boys were free to wander around on their own pace and also had a wonderful cultural experience. We will go again... More

Not as large as I thought it would be and so many people crowding around the paintings. Go at an "off time" if possible since I think the experience would've been better if not trying to fight the crowds to see anything.

I loved this museum. I am not an art aficionado, but I was truly excited to visit there, as I love Van Gogh. And the museum is beautiful. A lot of love, care and attention went into its creation, and it shows. I enjoyed my visit very much- but I was disappointed that there were no major works in residence... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
