Nothing spectacular but the palace is a very interesting looking building. It's worth a little detour if you are walking around the city center.

Dam Platz is one of the most central places to be . You may find restaurants, cafe , hotels , pick up buses etc etc without being so concern about safety even at late hours.

Lovely spot for people watching! Opposite madame tussauds and very central, right outside the palace. Close to the shopping area and plenty of bars and restaurants around.

Main square in Amsterdam where all the attractions and restaurants excluding the Museums are within walking distance; Square is very lively and if you stay close to the square you really do not need to use any public transportation

If you are into people watching, then this is the place for you. The square is just too crowded. Mind your pockets and purses.

A nice place to sit and have a drink and watch the world go by. Amazing to see so many cyclists going about their daily commute. The palace and some grand hotels are here, which gives the place a larger than life feeling.

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
