My wife and I spent a wonderful late morning / early afternoon with Peter, learning about aspects of Amsterdam we did not find in our guide books. Historical aspects of the city including Holocaust memorials was very interesting and very moving. The pace was just right, Peter's pictures (taken 70+ years earlier from the exact spots we were standing) helped... More

Fantastic tour with very interesting photographs and local information. Both our younger son, 10 years old, and older son, 14 years old found the walk to be informative and fun. We've had follow up information sent to us which the boys are planning to take to school to share with the class. The tour lasted around 3 hours with a... More

How and why did Holland become such an economic power? The clues are every where as we walked around the city. Peter illustrated through art and architecture the wealth generated by Holland's successful initiation of the first truly modern global economy. From the original purpose of buildings to the canals themselves, Peter connected Amsterdam's infrastructure to its location, key to... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
