The Central Library is a short walk from the Train Station and is a 'don't miss' destination. The building is multi-storied, modern, clean and very inviting even if your knowledge of Dutch is limited. Don't miss the exposition area and also spend time on the top floor for lunch or a nice snack. The food is served cafeteria style an... More

This big building near the water is the biggest library in Amsterdam. My friend and I always meet here because she rents books and I like to have coffee here. On the 6th floor is a great view over the city. Perfect for a selfie with view.

This library offers fee-based wifi in the library, but you can also go to the cafe on the 7th floor and get free wifi. The cafe is very good and reasonably priced and the view over the old center of Amsterdam is wonderful. The lower floors also offer views and some very comfortable places to work or take a breather... More

This is a really modern building, with a piano you can play and a nice restaurant at the top with an incredible view.

Visited on a very wet afternoon. Lovely building, with fabulous facilities. Lovely to see it so well used. We had a late lunch on the seventh floor at the Place restaurant. Exceptionally good food at reasonable prices. It's next to the Theatre so ideal for a meal or drink before a performance. Great views of Amsterdam, there is a terrace... More

A wide range of food, from different culinary traditions. Nice service, good food, wonderful place, at a very low price. Maybe the best place in Amsterdam to eat well without spending too much. I often choose just a dish of vegetables or a salmon and fries., enjoying the nice view from the upper floor of the OBA.

I know I should speak about the library, and I can say it is a building with an interesting architecture, placed in a good and beautiful spot. The indoors are nice with a lot of book. But I also wanted to say something about the cafe inside it, and that is great compared with the rest of the cafes in... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
