Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Rokin Street (from Rak-in - "inner passage"), following the bend of the Amstel, leads from Dam Square to the Muntplein - the square of the former city gate. Muntplein), where Rokin goes out, is actually not an ordinary square, but a bridge 70 meters wide. Approximately in the middle of Rokin, where the equestrian statue of Queen Wilhelmina (1880-1962) stands, the Amstel appears again from the ground, which is called Rokin before the Muntplein. On the left bank stands the austere, if not gloomy building of the Archaeological Museum of the University of Amsterdam or the Allard Pearson Museum. The entire street with the canal is clearly visible from the multi-storey H&M store (house 181-183), the leader of Dutch retail. Until 2014, this 1905 Art Deco house was called the Maison de Bonneterie.

I always quite enjoy walking around the Rokin area and especially during the festive month of December. Underneath is the Rokin Metro Station which i use every now and then. The small streets in the area are quite delightful and definitely worth exploring as well.

Nice, sometimes busy, shopping & commercial street in Amsterdam. If you are not in hurry, you will reach eg. City Centrum, some museums (eg. Anne Frank's house); canal views, just by walking distances. And, also Trams (many lines) & Metro (one line) is passing the Street from morning to very late evening. I liked most of those tiny canals, bridges among others. Notice: IF you are interested in (must have) small (rubber)Ducks, here is the right place to get them!

This is a busy street in the center of Amsterdam’s commercial sector. There are a number of points of interest in the area and places that offer views of the canals.

A buzzy area, with a major street and canal running through it, during these trying times, there is hardly anyone around, quite nice just to walk around essentially having it all to ourselves.

Never imagine that this place would be a ghost area, almost nobody present here. The place in the city centre that was normally very crowded with busses and people, it's suddenly became so quiet. Scary to think about it. Hopefully it's getting back to normal again soon. It's a very nice area to get around. It has the coolest subway station with all the found during excavation were displayed along the elevator.

Rokin has always been a bit pretentious, the address of luxury shops like Gassan diamonds and Hajenius cigar store. Over the past years attempts have been made to up the ante in with a luxury department store (Hudson's Bay, now gone bust) and a decent bookstore (Scheltema), some restaurants, some public art, still I cannot escape the feeling that it's just a pimped up transport corridor connecting the center and Rembrandtplein district. Just doesn't quite do it for me.

This busy street and adjacent waterway is constantly busy day and night as it runs from the Muntplein down to Dam Square. Our hotel, Banks Mansion, was a short walk from Rokin and we passed along it on many occasions both daytime and in the evening.
Very picturesque views along the water and many floral displays in the summer months.

They were building what looked like an addition to the metro station so there was a lot of construction. The area is close to Dam square.
