The city hall is the center of the old city (not of today’s city which has evolved much further away).

It’s a beautiful building, interesting. It’s also the place where you will find a rather big market.

In the Market square of Maastricht you will see this beautiful building of the City Hall. It has a lot of history to it, so if you are on a guided tour you will learn a lot about this building. It is also equally interesting for those into architecture and arts - being built in the Renaissance period it has a lot of interesting decorations on its facades.
If you are looking it up on the www you can have a chance on booking a visit inside - don't know exactly what periods or days but with a little planing and a hint of luck you can go inside too.
Overall it is a must see when you are in Maastricht and since you are in the city center you can definitely include it in your tour of the city.

The city hall is arguably the central point of Maastricht and a symbol of its illustrious history. For many visitors this is likely to be their starting point due to its proximity to the central bus and train stations. Currently being renovated it is still worth a visit.

You can't help being drawn to this building set in the centre of the large market place. Impressive on any level. Wander into the main foyer and it's grand with impressive frescos on the ceilings. The tourist office ( VVV) arranges tours on c ertain days when you can see inside all the rooms and chambers, but you need to book. Alas we were too late.

The beautiful City Hall in the middle of the market square. The weekend market with different sale booths make the square and hall more attractive.

The Stadthuis is the focal point of Markt square, located near the foot of the Wihelminabrug. While the facade of this grey square building held little interest for me, there was an interesting story behind its exterior double staircase. When this city hall was built in the 1600s, there were 2 civic authorities - one a Duke, the other a Prince-Bishop. Each had his own staircase to enter the city hall when duty called. The city hall does have a tall bell/clock tower with 43 bells that ring a melodious tune, but not for us. Our walking tour did not include an entry to see the main hall inside which I have read is worth a visit. City hall, IMO, is not the reason to visit this square, as I would return, mainly, to buy some more of those delicious Dutch fried specialities - olibollen - available from the "food truck" on the square.

The Town Hall is pretty impressive and centres on a large square. Square, grey limestone built in 1664 and used to be open to visitors but we saw no such signs.
