Beautiful Church

Visited the Church during my stay last week. It is beautiful inside and I was lucky enough to be there when the organ was being played......amazing.

A stunning place to go to just soak up the history of this beautiful old building, and be sure to hang around to listen to the wonderful Carillon

What a national treasure this church is. It is beautiful inside and out and filled with a strong sense of peace. There is much to look at inside, including a special area filled with relics and church treasures. The stained glass windows and organ are also very impressive. The carillon bells are played regularly and are beautiful to listen to.... More

Since I am. "church fanatic", maybe my review is somewhat biased. I just love old European churches and basilicas. This is no exception. Whenever we travel, I always visit the Churches etc. since I am a Catholic I find a deep knowledge in the fact that God is with us when I see the spectacular architecture and wonderful sculpturevand paintings... Building is nice but not as impressive as you find in France and Spain. Some strange collection of human body parts - lower jaws, humerus/ulna/or radius use in status and artifacts. Okay to visit if you are there, but not worth a big detour.

This is definitely a must see while in Maastricht! There is public parking underneath the church and very convenient for the city center! The oldest altar in the Netherlands which was dedicated to Saint Gertrude of Nivelles. In some of the statues in the church have bones of the Saints in them which is pretty cool.

If you are fascinated by religious treasures this is one to visit. The Basilica itself is large and beautiful without being overly indulgent in its design.

The church has a nice small museum next to it which documents the history of the site from the entombment of St. Servatius in the 300's up through the building of the church in Romanesque and Gothic times. I'm not ordinarily enthusiastic about paying to enter a church, but this was worth it due to the building's histor and accompanying... More
