Located right in the heart of activity where seemingly all cross paths seem to meet here in our week long walking travels, definitely take the time to make the 260 steps spiral brick staircase climb. There are a couple breakout areas on the way to see the bells etc before you make it to the viewing top wraparound area.
A clear day is of course best time for views. The rotating turnstile are unattended but you can easily pay ~8 Euros per person by credit card and the gate will allow one person in.
Note: While unattended their is an outer gate at the base that does get locked and prevents access to the final turnstile. Check the local times of operation and it seemed it might get closed on very windy / cloudy days.

The Martinitoren is a prominent building in Groningen and has a rich history. The church is beautiful. I tried going inside but the doors were closed so I couldn't figure out the opening hours to visit the inside and the tower. I'm sure it's just as impressive from the inside as it is the outside.

It is filled up with stairs inside, that you have to climb. When you are on the stairs it can be difficult to pass others, but that's a part of the attraction.
Inside the Martinitower you can see the big clocks, try a mashine that makes you a coint with a picture of the Martini Tower.. and if you are lucky the big clocks on the top will ring when you stand below them. It can be hard to climb the stairs, but it's woth it when you see the beautiful view from the top!

Majestic tower in the city center, do not miss the George and the Dragon sculpture from Oswald Wenckebach at the base of the tower, in remembrance of all the Citizen who have lost their lives during the war. This is truly a work of art that transcends cultures as you feel the emotions emanating from the gigantic sculpture.

You get a werry good view over the town. But it is a long and steep climb. You'll have to climb 260 steps to get to the top. The build was completed in 1482 and it has 62 to bells

absolute top class experience! Guided with all COVID precautions the walk up and down with the stops in between was fantastic! The guide did an excellent job with nice anecdotes and history telling. At a bright day, we were lucky!, the view is breathtaking and you see quite a large part of "de Ommelanden".

One of my favourite things to do in Groningen. Narrow spiral staires with 266 steps. On the way up there are several areas where you can view different floors with interesting displays. One of my favourite floors was the display of the fabulous bells. Each of the bells had names such as Agnes and Walburg and the weight of the bells was listed. Also loved the floor where the mini bells were displayed and you could press the levers to hear the sound of each bell. The views from the top of the tower were wonderful. There was a great photo opportunity of the tower clock from the inside.... Definitely worth the climb.

buy a coin at vvv and start to climb.
its a nearo and long climb but it can be done in 3 stages and on all stages something to see or do.
then go down and visit the places you spotted from up there.

I loved this activity in Groningen! Really interesting history as you go up the tower with English used alongside Dutch. Loved how the tower layout meant it never felt like loads of steps as there was a stop point with something to look at each time. The bells were great and the view at the top was beautiful. Totally worth it!

This is apparently a "must do" activity when visiting Groningen, so we bought the tokens from the Tourist info Office, found our way through the turnstile and climbed the spiral stone stairs. Actually I climbed the stairs but my wife got part way up and decided she wasn't comfortable so went back down. There are quite a few stairs and a they are quite narrow requiring a fair bit of puff and careful attention to get up safely.
At the top you get to look at the bells and have a walk round the outside of the building. I found the area inside a bit scary because there are gaps in the floorboards, so even though I am sure they are safe, I felt a bit wobbly.
The view from outside is pretty good, but it has to be said Groningen is not that amazing to look at from above.
Finding you way back down the spiral staircase requires a lot of care. Fortunately I didn't meet anyone coming up.
Overall I am glad I did it but is isn't my best memory of this lovely city.

Si, 3 euros por persona. No iban niños con nosotros así que ignoro la tarifa de niños. Las entradas las pagas en la oficina de información que está al frente (te dan un token por persona). Espeto que lo disfrutes.😊
