We visited the Drents Museum for the first time to see the exhibition on American Realism. The exhibition is well organized and easy to view. The options in the gift shop are also good and varied. This was well worth the price of admission.

1. The Drents Museum punches well above its weight. Recent exhibitions include: a) Peredvizhniki -Russian realism 1870-1900 (in 2017) b)The American Dream (in conjunction with the Kunsthalle Emden in Germany) -a major exhibition of American art post-1945 (until 27 May 2018) 2. Planned exhibitions include:...More

The drents museum is not exactly next door for me. But it’s not far from Groningen, a lovely and lively city. I went to see ‘the American dream’, after seeing the second part in Emden. Even though the quality of the works is similar, I...More

They have a great exhibition on American realism from 1945 - 2017 until half of May 2018. Also an archeological exhibition of the province of Drente.

Nice museum. Have learnt that in the Netherlands they prefer you to keep bags in lockers in museums- as a foreigner, I was not used to this. Went to see an exhibit to contribute to a university class, and the staff were understanding about this....More

We visited the Drents Museum in Assen for a very interesting double exhibition: the American Dream. Paintings in the era from 1945-1965. The counter part of the exhibition (1965-today) is now in the Kunsthalle Emden (Germany). In total it is a great exhibition, giving a...More

Very interesting exposition of American Realism 1965-2017. In cooperation with Kunsthalle Emden (Germany),approximately 130 kilometres from Assen. Assen shows the earliest period. Visit the two museums, starting in Assen. We stayed in Groningen overnight, a nice city to spend the evening (and night).
