I stayed at Baur au Lac and I realised that a lovely canal is just outside the hotel. I took the opportunity to stroll along this canal in the afternoon. Boats berthed by the bank, some ducks and trees made up the scenery along the canal.

This is a really nice walkway. You can take it at Burkliplatz and under the road and it is generally very quiet. It would seem that not many people either know it or take it. It ends near the new Swiss Stock Exchange. There are many boats anchored alomng the way, ducks and swans and towards te end there is... More

Usually when people are going from Main Railway Station/City Centre towards Lake Zürich, they are going along River Limmat. This lovely little Canal is almost hidden, but offers you a nice walk between apartment buildings, hotels etc. Grab a coffee and relax for awhile watching swans while you still are only short walk away from many major attractions

Below street level for most of the way, with a few surprises (Zurich's Canoe Polo Club?!) it offered a nice peaceful transition from lake front to shops

Quiet and peaceful which is not surprising because Zurich is no New Yourk City or Hong Kong. But it is an especially good place to have a walk, relax and sort out your mind. Water birds are not afraid of strollers - just see the pictures.

I have found Schanzengraben Canal by accident just walking and getting lost lookuinf for a place to eat my home-made sandwich and am very glad I ended up here as it was a very relaxing and yet close to the center spot. Must be even nicer in warmer months (been there a few weeks ago in December)

...to stroll thru the Schanzengraben ... even if you rush from one to the next appointment, taking a de-tour of a couple of minutes and enjoying the special atmosphere of this small little canal is always worthwhile !
