«People who know animals will protect them.»

Up above the city of Zurich, spanning a surface of approximately 27 hectares, is Switzerland’s largest and most frequently visited cultural and educational institution: Zoo Zurich. The popular nationwide excursion destination wants to get people interested in animals and encourage them to play an active role in nature conservation and the protection of species.

The zoo is located close to the outskirts of the city, but there are couple of trams reaching the location. The zoo in itself is somewhat "luck-based" type of destination. You have to check weather forecast to have a pleasant stay. Plus from what I have understood, it is also seasonal. Depending on the season, you have different plans and... More

I really like the philosophy of Zurich Zoo. Not to show as many animals as possible but to create an environment that gives them a lot of room. Zurich zoo creates an environment for visitors that helps to slow down and relax. I love to observe the animals and take the time to do so. If you take the time... More

Clean, well maintained and funny Zoo. It's located outside of the city and it's very green and sunny around. There is a very good Italian restaurant nearby.

I've visited many Zoos in the UK and in Europe, this is possibly the worst one I've been too. The organisation of the Zoo is not great with few signposts to help find your way around including a map that isn't the most informative either. Plus I think I saw 1 member of staff around the Zoo in a full... More

This zoo is great in every season. In winter (Nov-March) you can watch the penguins on a short "parade" outside of their enclosure (temperature must be below 10°C/50°F). The animals live in different areas which replicate their natural habitats as closely as possible. The Asiatic elephants live in a beautiful park area called "Kaeng Krachan". It opened in 2014 and... I thought that the ZOO Zurich will be impressive but I was a little bit disappointed. Comparing with other ZOOs from Germany I can say that is under that ones. The animals don't have enough space, the aquarium is very small, etc. Masoala space is the best part and I have never seen something like this before! Another negative point... More

So much to do and see for our twin 3.5 year old boys. The animals are well taken care of and the place is lovely. Many zoos are too small and a bit sad. But this zoo is absolutely great. Our boys love the playground as well. Three hours is a good amount of time for a visit.

I love a Zoo and this has everything you normally get in a Zoo. Baby elephants, penguins, Zebras, Monkeys. Great for a family day out. There are some inside enclosures but probably best on a non rainy day.
