On a nicens day in the Spring during the 5th month of our Lord my wif and I set upon walking up through the city up up up many a hills slowly all the while several men a working and trolleys bustling and waiters dipsadashing whodickers and sallyclinks along the mellow asphalt until we reached a splendid little field with... The gravestones and tombs are works of art, modern and classical. The cemetery is quiet and peaceful and beautifully laid out. There is a info board near the entrance to show you where the 'famous' graves are. Very well maintained and immaculate in the Swiss way. Just off the 'Zoo' tram stop.

When friends and family visit this is one of the places I take them. It's just an interesting place to visit. Not somewhere you'd spend hours though.

The place is just around the corner of Zurich ZOO. It's quite high but you dont have a view to the city from here. The cementry is very quiet and small but nice. You can also see a sculpture of James Joyce above his grave.

This is a place you are going to with a pre-determined purpose. Probably to seek out James Joyce, and then possibly to allow a secondary flow of wonderment and wisdom trickle vicariously into your soul by simply sharing a second of time-space with the others who are there.

We visited in the rain but it was still quite possibly the most beautiful week of the year for the breathtakingly Autumnal colours. Friedhof Fluntern has many famous graves. Nobel Physicists, medics, authors, playwrights. There is a map and some information at the entrance. Many of the gravestones have intricately carved stonework and are easy to read despite being more... More

We took the tram up the hill, past the zoo and exited at the cemetery. It was getting late, so we searched the map on the wood to find the plot we were looking for, took photos and went back to the tram. It's beautiful, even as a cemetery. The Swiss know what they are doing.

I had come to see the grave of James Joyce. I had long wished to visit. There are two ways to reach Fluntern Cemetery, by tram #6 or by Funicular from Susenbergstrasse, then a slow hike uphill past some remarkable homes through a neighborhood few can afford. The is a brown-gravel path leading into the graveyard. His plot is toward... More
