Heidiland and Liechtenstein Tour from Zurich: Two Countries in One Day

999 reviews
If you want to visit "Heidiland" but don’t know the best way to get there, this day trip from Zurich is the ticket. You’ll visit the village of Maienfeld, where the beloved Heidi books were set, and spend time in Zurich and Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, too. It’s the perfect way to learn the region’s history and culture while following in the footsteps of Heidi in the Swiss mountains.

The Zúrich Opera House has been the home of the Zürich Opera since 1891. It also houses the Bernhard-Theater Zürich and the Zürich Ballet. Currently (July 2020) the house is under renovation, so difficult to get closer to the building. But the Sechseläutenplatz just in front of it provides a lot of space to the impressing building.

This was to be my 4th ballet ever, so I am not a regular Opera house attendee. I bought tickets for Messa da Requiem because it was playing the weekend that we were in Zurich. I thought it was a ballet but it was more of an Opera--with ballet. I had never been to an opera but it was excellent. I enjoyed watching the ballet dancers as well but they seemed to be more of an add on to the story. We had "less expensive" seats in the top balcony but the view was still great as this is a relatively small opera house.

The Opera House in Zurich is a beautiful building situated on the edge of the old town, close to Lake Zurich. Did not get an opportunity to visit inside but next time when in Zurich, will certainly take an inside tour.
