This is an architectural gem as a small opera house - about 1 200 seats. Go to a show if you can to enjoy the fine acoustics and orchestra.

Just around 10 min walk from the Grossmunster Cathedral is this 19 c Opera house.
It is set on a huge plateau at the edge of old town Zurich, just where the Zurich lake begins.
We wanted to have an inside tour, but it was not offered that day. Anyway, on a clear March day we observed it from the plateau where're many public chairs placed.

This beatiful theatre , as the Phoenix rose again after the flames.
In 1889 it was destroyd by flames and in 1891 was finished what we can see today.
In this theatre , Richard Wagner represented for the first time the Parsifal.

The Zúrich Opera House has been the home of the Zürich Opera since 1891. It also houses the Bernhard-Theater Zürich and the Zürich Ballet. Currently (July 2020) the house is under renovation, so difficult to get closer to the building. But the Sechseläutenplatz just in front of it provides a lot of space to the impressing building.

This was to be my 4th ballet ever, so I am not a regular Opera house attendee. I bought tickets for Messa da Requiem because it was playing the weekend that we were in Zurich. I thought it was a ballet but it was more of an Opera--with ballet. I had never been to an opera but it was excellent. I enjoyed watching the ballet dancers as well but they seemed to be more of an add on to the story. We had "less expensive" seats in the top balcony but the view was still great as this is a relatively small opera house.

The Opera House in Zurich is a beautiful building situated on the edge of the old town, close to Lake Zurich. Did not get an opportunity to visit inside but next time when in Zurich, will certainly take an inside tour.

Situated on the edge of Old Town on the bank of Lake Zurich, the Opera House is a beautiful building and is as grand as many other older and well known opera houses in Europe. We did not visit the inside however the exterior is of beautiful architecture and the setting right near Lake Zurich makes this such a nice scene. Next time we would definitely like to tour the inside or even attend an opera.

The Zurich Opera House is small if you compare it to Opera Houses such as the Royal Opera House in London but what it lacks in space is made up by wonderful architecture and great use of the space. We have seen multiple productions at the Opera House (mainly Opera) and all have been excellent. The tickets are relatively expensive but worth it.

As I was staying virtually next door the the Opera house, I had hoped to at least visit to see the interior. Sadly, tours have to be booked in advance and none were available whilst I was there. Unlike the Palais Garnier in Paris visitors are not allowed inside the opera house unless attending a performance.

Interestingly, ballet, opera and classical concerts are all scheduled during the year, so if you know your plans well in advance I would encourage you to look at the performance calendar.

The Operahaus is much smaller than many other houses such as the Royal Opera house in London, or the Met in New York, so seating is limited. Also, to ensure you have a clear view of the stage, be wary of seats with restricted views as some are blocked by structural pillars!
