This 12th-century cathedral has both historical and architectural significance: Ulrich Zwingli led an important sect of the Reformation from here in the early 1500s, and the cathedral's twin towers serve as perhaps the most recognizable landmarks in modern Zürich.

Admittance to Grossmunster is free but there is a minimal charge to climb the 187 narrow stairs of one of the towers. Mesmerizing views of Zurich in every direction. Contemplate in the cloister gardens.

Make sure to go in (and be quiet) donate money to walk to the top, it is probably the tiniest stair case you will ever walk up, squeeze by people coming down or up. The view and the trip up is worth it.

I would recommend climbing the tower to get a panoramic view of the city. It is a lot of steps but worth the climb. Great place to take photos.

This is a very impressive building in a square which we found on a "walking tour of Zurich" on-line; starting from Lake Zurich. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so to save myself a thousand or so words in trying to describe this...More

Entry to the church is free, and the climb to the top of the tower is only CHF 4 (2 for kids) so well worth it. The stairs are extremely narrow and uneven which adds to the fun, but may not be suitable for all...More

The church itself is nothing special, but the windows with stained glass are outstanding and never seen before like that!

The name says it all. The building will show up in about half your pictures in Zurich, but being a Protestant church it lacks some of the razzle-dazzle other European cathedrals have.

This church has an ok interior and a great view from its tower (4 CHF). It has special history as part of the Reformation. Ask for the written guides especially the one on Zwingli.
