Grossmunster
About
This 12th-century cathedral has both historical and architectural significance: Ulrich Zwingli led an important sect of the Reformation from here in the early 1500s, and the cathedral's twin towers serve as perhaps the most recognizable landmarks in modern Zürich.

    It towers over the city
Very striking two towers that is steeped in history for Zurich. Very busy place as it probably on everyone to do list, surprised it’s not in the top 3 on trip advisor. A must see while in Zurich and being free also which is great in an expensive city.

Not worth going up the tower for the view
I just wanted to tell my experience climbing up one of the towers of the church in winter. I went in middle December while it was snowing a litttle bit. I paid CHF 5 and went up going through a winding steep and narrow steps where only one person can fit. Afterwards there were wooden steps much wider but when I got to the top I was disappointed that you could not go out into the surrounding balcony well maybe because is cold out there but they could have warned me so that I wouln't have gone up with so much effort to just watch the views (which are not so terrific anyway) from the windows which had an iron frame on top so this made a bit hard to take photos without this frame. Do not recommend it either to people going up alone as if you fall down, it might be hard to get someone from the ground hearing you. I also didn't feel safe being all by myself there when a man came up and so I decided to go down right away. You must be fit to go up in any case. Otherwise the old town of Zurich is beautiful and you can get nice photos from walking by the river.

    Zurich Historical Landmark!
Legend has it that Grossmunster Cathedral, a Protestant Church, was built on the graves of the Patron Saints of Zurich - Felix and Regula. It is an impressive Romanesque structure, with iconic twin towers that are an integral part of the Old Town Zurich's skyline. You are able to climb the East Tower, but unfortunately the city views are obstructed by metal grates. Features to note within the impressive Cathedral include: the Sigmar Polke stained glass windows, the crypt area with Charlemagne Statue, and the Choir Loft with Giacometti windows. Lovely Cathedral!

    Rather banal
Far from being one of the impressive churches of Europe. Quite beautiful seen from a distance, with its two slender towers. But nothing more. The interior is absolutely ordinary. It is possible to climb one of the towers, but the view is obstructed by some uninspired placed railings.

Worth a visit to climb the tower!
A nice church, but really only worth a stop if you intend to climb the tower ($5 CHF - cash only). The tower climb is not hard, but does involve a lot of steps and in a confined area for about half. Great views of Zurich await at the top!

    A landmark of Zurich
This is an old church of Zurich city and is visible from a distance on any side of the city. The twin towers are hard to miss. Once inside one can climb up one of the towers thorugh wooden stairs. There is fees for going up. From the top the view of the entire city is breath-taking.

    Excellent Romanesque architecture
Excellent example of Romanesque church completed in 12th century and substantially unchanged. If you’re into such architecture you will find yourself comparing it to Basel Münster and other Romanesque churches such as those in Cologne, Limburg, etc. look at the details. Also study up on Zwingli and Bullinger. They had a major influence through their correspondence and meetings with other founders of Reformed, Lutheran and Anglican churches.

    Grossmunster
The Grossmünster is a Romanesque-style Protestant church in Zürich and is one of the four major churches in the city ,the others being the Fraumünster, Predigerkirche, and St. Peterskirche( St Peters church)). Its congregation forms part of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zürich and it was a monastery church, vying for precedence with the Fraumünster across the Limmat throughout the Middle Ages.Construction of the present structure commenced around 1100 and it was inaugurated around 1220. Tourists can visit the terrace of the church for a view of Zurich city.

Get in shape to climb the stairs
Beautiful church and worth the 5 CHF to climb up the tower to see the view. The first spiral staircase is made of stone and very narrow--probably not recommended for those with claustrophobia. There is AED equipment for those with heart issues about halfway up the climb. Physical fitness definitely recommended for the steps, as well as no knee or joint problems. Stairs are uneven. But the views at the top are spectacular and well worth the climb. Don't forget to go look at the large Zwingli statue across the street from the church.

    Worth a quick visit
It is probably one of the most recognized landmark of the Zurich city along with Fraumunster. The inside of the church are plain which makes sense as it is a Protestant church. We visited the crypt but skipped the climb on the towers.

One of the three iconic churches in Zurich's old town, this was the only one at the east bank and was a sight to behold and complements the architecture of the city below. I did not enter the church though since I was short on time.

Exterior architecture is lovely. Interior is so so. Worth walking to and through - but a quick stop, not a long tour worthy location.

It has an impressive exterior but is very dull looking inside. Even the stained windows were lame.

Worth a walk-by but you’ll likely be disappointed if you go inside.

Can’t miss crossing downtown. Near the river. Part of a series of Korean pop Tv series scenes. The cathedral itself is picturesque. Giving identity to the town of Zurich.

The exterior of the building is really nice. It’s interior however is pretty normal.

I would not recommend paying to climb up its tower. The views above is supposed to be very nice but is blocked by metal gates barring you from stepping outside to get a better view.

This was an impressive building from the outside but quite plain inside. The staff were helpful and you can go up one of the towers and down to the crypt.

I’d go to this if you’re near the lake but wouldn’t make a special trip.

Grossmunster is a beautiful church in a double peak shape. It also offers view from inside the towers. It is truly a beautiful structure across the Zurich lake. Be sure to visit both in the day and night to get a variations on the view or the city from the tower or for gorgeous pic opt across the lake.

Wonderful and historical church at the heart of Zurich with imposing views. Free to explore some parts as long as you are quiet and respectful.

This is yet another Zurich cathedral that is gorgeous on the outside but rather plain on the inside. But unlike the others, Grossmünster does offer an intense section of stained glass when it catches the sun just right and a mighty pipe organ! The better pictures are on the outside, and the interior would be best during a church service or organ concert.
