Relax, chill and take your time to wander the cobbled streets of this lovely Old Town with its restaurants, cafes, fountains, flowers and views. My recommendation for a meal: Le Grutli Cafe-Restaurant at Rue du Grand-Chene 8. Tiny place up a tiny sidestreet but with a big heart!

Montreux old town is nested between the Montreux promenade by the Geneva lake and a mountain range in the back.
It's an easy uphill climb to reach the small compact town with cute narrow streets, picturesque houses and small squares. It will require up to 2 hrs your time.

It is worth heading up the hill into the old town of Montreux. When I visited there was a fair going on and it was filled with locals, hardly a tourist in sight!

Montreux is a resort town on Lake Geneva. Nestled between steep hills and the lakeside. The town's promenade is lined with flowers, sculptures, Mediterranean trees and grand Belle Époque buildings. Offshore is a medieval island castle, Château de Chillon, with ramparts, formal halls and a chapel with 14th-century murals.

There’s not much to say about old town Montreau except to relate the charm of it’s narrow streets and buildings that maintain their 19th century (and earlier) charm. I took more pictures than I care to admit.

Beautiful Montreux is located on a sheltered bay on Lake Geneva, surrounded by vineyards with the Alps providing a backdrop. The views of the Alps, the crystal clear water of Lake Geneva, and the splendid architecture make for a very pleasant stroll around town. As a November visitor, I was able to enjoy the town without the hordes of tourists that are common in the summer months, often for the Jazz Festival.

Would Vieille-Ville de montreux be a nice place to stay for 3 nights rather than montreux or Lausanne?

Hi Nineducks, it depends of what you are looking for ... if you like old and very quiet places, Montreux old town is nice end perfect ! the view is great, some little shops and a sympathetic hotel (the Tralala Hotel). But if you like shopping, museums and city activities, Lausanne is better !
Have a nice holidays in the french part of Switzerland !
Odile
