Montreaux hosts an incredible lake front - like none other I have seen. On the far side of the road you have lots of shops and cafes and the other this incredible green area and lake front. There are many statues, monuments and quirky works of art as you stroll along. The scenery is stunning.

We had a couple of hours to walk the path along the lakefront to enjoy the beautiful flower gardens and artwork along the lake. There are a number of restaurants and creperies available along the walk to sit and enjoy the scenery and the promenade.
Easy to see why the rich and famous spend time in Montreux.

Our first full day in Switzerland and we went to Montreux. I wanted to see the Freddie Mercury statue and Queen's recording studios. After arriving from Geneva on the train we walked along the lakeside and found the statue. After many photos were taken we continued our walk. It was like being on the Italian Riviera. The atmosphere was so calm and people strolling along said hello. What a wonderfully relaxed and welcoming place. We walked all the way to the Chateau de Chillons admiring the flowers and the many pieces of sculpture along the way, From there we got a steam ferry back to the Montreux. We then went to the Queen recording studios, which were free to enter and full of many amazing facts of the group. I even saw the hand written lyrics to my favourite Queen song (Who Wants to Live Forever). Loved everything about Montreux. I will go back again.Inn the words of Queen It's a Kind fo Magic!

Motreux lakeside and promenade are among the most beautiful places to visit in the whole of Switzerland. During our three days’ stay in Montreux , we enjoyed long walks along the lake every day. The entire lakeside is well planned and beautifully maintained with nice gardens and colourful flowers. There are artistic buildings , nice restaurants and many enjoyable spots all along the promenade.

Montreux is a GREAT little city.
It's not the first time we come.
Visiting it at this time has the advantage of entering into the preparations for Christmas, with its Marche du Noel. Christmas gifts, crafts, typical foods, vin chaud (mulled wine), among several other things.
Freddy Mercury lived in this city. Monument on the shores of the lake, his studio, etc.
It is a classy city to explore from one end to the other. From there you can take the Goldenpass train that takes you to Geneva on one side (1 hour) and on the other to dream sky cities.
(Gstaad, Zermat, etc.) that can be done in one day, getting off and on the train (which by the way is beautiful). I recommend that outing.
Very close by bus to the city (tourists do not pay a ticket) is Vevey, and there, do not miss the Chaplin Museum. It moves. A divine house. Enormous! The great Chaplin lived there with his children. Beautiful to visit. Highly recommended from us. Living history very well presented.
I hope we can return.

Montreux is a beautiful town situated by the lake of Geneva in between Vevey & Villeneuve. It is
often regarded as the Pearl of the Swiss Riviera, a playground of many rich & famous people. There is a casino, high end private beauty clinic, St.George’s International School, a big convention centre & Chateau de Chillon which is the most visited castle in Switzerland. The view along the lake shore is simply stunning, a postcard perfect scenery of the serene blue lake with the Swiss Alpine backdrop.

We went in winter when the Christmas Market was on. The whole area is beautiful both day and night. You can walk along the lake shore for miles in each direction and there is plenty to see.
If you are staying in Montreux, try and pick a hotel on the lakefront.

Montreux Lakeside visit is one of the most picturesque & beautiful experience we had on our recent family holidays to Switzerland. The views are beautiful, the calmness , the lake & the mountains. At one side you can experience natural beauty and on the other side the surrounding has a lot of activities you can take part in.

Rather average. If you have never been to Such a place it might be really nice but in co parision to other lakeside cities in Europe it is rather boring with
little style. I am sure during the Jazz Festival it is better but I was not there at this time

Walking along the shoreline of Lake Geneva is simply breath-taking. My wife and I strolled from the Grand Suisse Hotel to the Castle Chillon and back. Views in both directions change as does the sun on the water. Heck, let the photos speak for themselves. No wonder Freddie fell in love with this place.

We will be visiting for the day from Geneva the 3rd week in September. Are you allowed to swim in the lake? Will it be warm enough this time of year?
Written 3 September 2022
Lake Geneva was pleasingly warm at start August and I imagine it will be just a little cooler in September (say 20C?).
As for Montruex, not sure about the freedom to swim or the facilities for swimmers as my dip was in Geneva city itself.
I can recommend Geneva's Bains de Paquis. Not at all expensive (2 Fr?), good facilities (nb the cafe) and a sign tells you the water temperature.

Written 16 July 2019
Yes most probably it will be autumn season and the weather will be cool. You will get to see some brilliant natural hues and floral display on the lake geneva. Have a lovely trip :)
