Alpenwild knows how to put together a winning hiking package. Hubby and I, and 2 other couples, participated in an 8 day hiking adventure/challenge in the French Alps. The tour included all meals which could be ordered off the menu, hotels, guides, and transportation from place to place, as well as a 6 day gondola pass for the areas we were hiking. I knew I’d probably have some issues with the altitude and our wonderful Alpenwild guide, Sophie, was able to find alternative routes that weren’t as strenuous for me so I could meet up with the rest of the group for our picnic lunches on the mountain.
Our certified outdoor trekking guide was so much fun, so attentive, and so knowledgeable. One of my favorite parts of the trip was the day we visited the Aiguille du Midi.
The food, the hotels, the guides, and our fellow hikers were all A+ and hubby and I highly recommend Alpenwild for a first class experience!

Our Alpenwild “Exploring the Jungfrau” adventure, with two guides for nine clients, was sensational. Very high marks for the efficiency of the home office; tour itinerary; lodgings and meals; Vammos trip app; transportation logistics beginning to end; the weather!

But all my fellow travelers and I thought the success of the trip was mainly due to our guides, a couple named Sofie and Louis. Their contagious enthusiasm was the springboard for elevating this eight-day trip to the extraordinary. We were a good bunch, coming into it as individuals, but our guides quickly created the tone and opportunities, in the best Swiss settings to be had, that led us, collectively, to reach for much more than hiking and sightseeing. Louis and Sofie’s boundless energy, smiles, generosity, and conversational acumen, with us and locals (including Daniel the cheese-making dairy farmer), helped us to find an individual meaning, each for ourselves, in what we were encountering. The goodwill we all gave and took as new friends, while feeling mostly out of our normal time and space considerations, was refreshing. I would choose any trip the two guides choose to lead.

Where to start. There is enough documented about the majesty and beauty of hiking the Tour De Mont Blanc. Our pictures and memories are awesome. We capped it with para-gliding over Chamonix up to the glacier - Definitely something you should add.

Our tour guide Marieke from Alpenwild made the trip. We were 3 couples hiking together with our guide, a perfect size “team”. First, the company handled all of the details with ease - hotels, meals, moving bags, and logistics. Marieke was fun, engaging, pushing, encouraging, and laughing the the whole time making for a very fun trip. The best part was her ability to flex to some of our crazy ideas. She was able to get a yoga instructor on our rest day to stretch out. She handled a sick day for 2 of our hikers making sure they were cared for. Deviated from restaurant plans when we got tired of the top chef meals. And arranged paragliding on the last day. Her knowledge of the mountain, businesses, routes, and people made it one of the best guided trips I’ve been on.

What a fabulous trip! My wife and I had a wonderful time with Louis and Sophie (our energetic and resourceful guides) doing the Exploring the Jungfrau in September 2023. All the hikes were well planned. Unique experiences like staying in a mountain lodge with no electricity and visiting a working farm learning about cheese making were just some of the highlights which we will never forget. Also, not forgetting the first class sumptuous picnics arranged by Louis and Sophie - we were spoilt for choice. If you think you are going to loose weight during this 9 day hiking trip, it is highly unlikely as the dinners arranged are just as good. But most of all, it is the friendship and camaraderie built around our other fellow hikers that we will treasure most. Just a word of caution, you will definitely enjoy the trip more if you are a regular hiker. As we are casual hikers, my wife and I struggled during the first 2 days, but we managed to complete all the hikes (including the optional ones) thanks to the adjustment of hiking pace set by the Louis and Sophie. Thank you Louis and Sophie for drilling us with the names of the mountain peaks, showing us wild flowers and herbs along the way, pointing out the wild animals (chamois, marmots and foxes) and most of all, taking care of us the entire time.

This review is for Jen. This was my first toured hike and I really hit the jackpot having Jen as a guide. Jen knows the trails like the back of her hand and always did an amazing job prepping us for the day -- what to expect, hike difficulty, timing, weather prediction (she might be an undercover meteorologist), etc. Not only was she spot on every time, she does it all with grace and a smile on her face.
Guiding abilities aside, Jen is a truly special human. She cares deeply about her group and is wonderfully curious about the world, with genuine interest in everyone's life stories. You feel good just being in her presence. Our dinners were always full of laughter, with Jen throwing in some hilarious stories that had us in stitches. She fit right in with our group and felt like part of the family. We all agree that Jen is absolutely one of the best and we were SO lucky to have her as our guide. We made a lifelong friend in Jen. The hiking was beautiful, but Jen really made it a trip to never forget.

Our Deluxe Haute Route trip was superb! Weather was perfect; the routing was exquisite (though segment from Col de Forclaz to Champex Lac got a bit old the second time around); the group got along just fine and was able to keep pretty close together on the trail; and the two leaders were perfect in terms of their personalities, their skills and fitness, and their ability to plan sumptuous picnic lunches. Emma Linford and Marta Gil made a great team and we would be lucky to end up with either of them as one of our guides on future trips. Being our second trip with Alpenwild, we continue to be especially pleased, not only with the nature of the trips and quality of guides, but also with the extra support offered by the Utah office for pre- and post-trip travel and arrangements. Thanks to all the office and field staff.

My only suggestion is that not all evening meals need to be so exquisite. Sometimes after a 3500 ft climb over a high col, a more casual meal would be welcome. One of two evening meals on your own may also be something to consider. With that said, we were treated to some really fine dining!

Photo below shows the thrill of reaching a high col between Chamonix and Zermatt.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience on the Deluxe Haute Route! We also appreciate your kind words about the Utah office team; they’re dedicated to ensuring every trip is seamless. Your thoughtful feedback about the evening meals is noted, and we’ll certainly consider ways to balance fine dining with more casual options for future adventures. Thank you for choosing Alpenwild once again—we look forward to seeing you on another trail soon!

Seven of us from Virginia joined 10 others on an Alpenwild “The Grand Train Tour of Switzerland” trip hosted by Guido and Jolanda Walther. This was an excellent way to see much of Switzerland and the Alps. The organization of the different trains (plus one boat trip on Lake Lucerne), cable car excursions, hotels, and lunches/dinners was perfect. Guido and Jolanda were exceedingly friendly and very knowledgeable about all the great sights we visited. I would highly recommend this train tour (and hosts!) to anyone wanting to see the mountainous wonders of Switzerland.

We had scheduled our trip to do the Deluxe Haute Route well over a year ago since it books up. Our tour was planned for September, so we were hoping that things would be open for travel from the US by then. I received a call this past week from Tessa at Alpenwild to tell me that they were cancelling our trip. They said that everyone but us had cancelled and they needed a minimum of 4 people to go on the hike. Incredibly disappointing, but I understand that part of it. What I don't understand is that when I asked if the rate we were charged for this trip ($10,000 for both of us for the guided hike, luggage transfer, meals and hotels for 10 nights, not including airfare) would be honored if we rescheduled for next year, she told me no. She said that we booked over a year ago and the rates have gone up and they would need to charge us the new rate. I explained that we were likely going to be out over $4,000 in airfare and that every trip we've had cancelled since Covid started has allowed us to rebook for up to 24 months at the same rates. The Harbor View hotel in Martha's Vineyard was even going to charge us the same rate if we rescheduled during peak season, even thought that rate was double at that time. Her response was that there was nothing she could do and that we would probably be given a credit by the airlines. I explained that we have already rebooked all of our trips to next year, so if we were to be issued a credit to be used in the next year, we probably wouldn't be able to use it. Again, she stated we would have to pay the increased rates. I've checked the rates at the hotels where we would have stayed on the Haute Route. For the same dates, the hotel that they state is the highlight of the trip and where you stay an extra day, the Hotel Bella Tola, is approximatley $176 for the both of us. They have quite a bit of margin built into their rates and and they certainly wouldn't be losing money on us if they allowed us to rebook at the same rates. I know someone who did their TMB hike and was talking with the guides. They are not paid much relative to what Alpenwild collects for these trips and depend on tips. We were able to cancel our flights and we did receive a credit for the $4,000 which has to be used in the next 12 months. Which we won't be able to use for the reasons I stated. So now we are out over $4,000 for the flights and on principle we will not rebook with Alpenwild, given that they seem to be most concerned about how much money they make rather than providing a good experience for their clients. Keep in mind that they cancelled our trip, not the other way around. Incredibly disappointing to say the least.

On their website they state that they consider guests part of their family. I can't imagine that this is the way they would treat their family. Actions speak much louder than words.

I just returned from hiking with Louie and Sofie in the Jungfrau. It was amazing to be in the woods, on hillsides and by intense waterfalls with such competent, warm, and supportive guides. Walking under the face of the Eiger and feeling the fortitude and determination of mountain climbers over the decades was awe inspiring. They knew about wildflowers and cheeses with equal enthusiasm. They provided multiple add ons for those of us that hadn't had quite enough hiking on the shorter days, without any judgement of those that wanted to stay and relax with a cold drink. The guides love of what they do is contagious and encouraging. I went in September hoping to have cooler days but we had high temps for the fall which was difficult. My only complaint is with the weather Gods.

I have just completed the St Moritz to Italy Hike with AlpenWild and I am still soaring from this fantastic adventure! First of all, Louis and Sophie were the consummate guides, anticipating our every need and always remaining flexible to adjust to the circumstances of the day. They packed us delicious picnic lunches from local markets, shared fascinating local history and tidbits, steered us to the best shops and scenic vistas, and led us on the most wondrous and exciting trails. Being introduced to the cuisine and beauty of lesser known villages, such as Soglio and Maloja, was an amazing treat that made us feel like we were experiencing things very few tourists would ever taste. Perhaps even more importantly, Louis and Sophie gave us the encouragement, compassionate understanding, and enthusiasm to propel us to new levels in our ability to hike the breathtaking terrain. I now feel even more motivated to improve my hiking skill and I cannot wait to enjoy more AlpenWild trips. Louis and Sophie are at the absolute highest pinnacle of guiding and if you ever have the opportunity to take a trip with them, do not hesitate for even an instant. They are the best of the best!
