About
LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura is a new cultural centre dedicated to the visual arts, music and the performing arts, one of Switzerland’s most important cultural institutions, with the aim of promoting a wide range of art and establishing Lugano as a cultural crossroads between northern and southern Europe. The LAC is the pulsating heart of a cultural network that it extends over the city boundaries - involving museums, orchestras, artists, cultural associations, libraries, educational institutions, art galleries, and collectors - which aims to build upon a common project.

despite the fact that I like the architecture of the art center is very much, I also enjoyed the Nicolas Party Rovine exhibition a lot. The Museum Shop provides interesting literature and souvenirs.

Outdoor cafe has lovely position, that catches the morning/noon sunshine. Short but very nice food menu, and service is efficient and friendly.

I saw many Interesting theater performances, on other occasions I also attended concerts of classical music. The resulting perfect acoustics make this hall the ideal for chamber concerts.

The LAC museum is not a real museum, it's mainly an exposition gallery. Here's why. When I visited it had 2 temporary exhibitions, one with paintings from Swiss Surrealist painters and another one of a young artist, with some new age installations.

It has a great view over the lake.

The LAC is not family-friendly although they intend too. The guards are absolutely a disgrace and very rude. I was yelled at because I entered an exhibition with a stroller, although there were neither prohibition signs nor staff at the entrance and nobody told me anything about the stroller when I got the tickets.

Once I was in the exhibition, 4 security people were talking among themselves about their break and smoking and other activities. After a bit one of them came to yell at me because I entered with the stroller and made me leave.

The exhibition was very poor and absolutely not worth it.

A good location and interesting architecture make it a place to visit when in Lugano, depending on the exhibition. Unfortunately the organisation is not overly professional. The personnel doesn’t speak any German, French or English. Student discounts end at age 25. Guided tours are only in Italian and booked out quickly.
Overall, not very customer oriented.

I recently visited lac with my girlfriend and what we first notices are the unevenly colored marble blocks on its facades; i do not even find particularly suited its colors. Furthermore, there is only a tiny bar selling food and drinks, while i would expect and hope for a more after the 230 million investment from the city.

Finally Lugano has a proper concert hall, actually a great one. Astonishing the acoustic quality during the exhibition of an orchestra. An experience to try.

This gallery had been open only 2 weeks when we visited last month. It is a beautiful building designed by Renzo Piano, and features many Giacometti sculptures.
