I visit the cathedral in almost every big city. This one is a little smaller, but full of treasures. You get the impression that every corner is flooded with works of art. Baroque style, lots of painted church windows, you can see Lugano everywhere. Not a must! But if you're already there, it's worth a visit.

An attractive enough building with the usual high levels of roman catholic art. If you've seen lots of such churches in Italy you won't see much to surprise you. Personally we much preferred Santa Maria delle Angioli around the corner. But Lugano's historic centre isn't large so it's worth a minute or two or your time if you're nearby.

The church has a marvelous view of the city and Lake Lugano, located halfway between the railway station and the lake. It has a lovely early Renaissance facade and a Baroque interior with seveal lovely frescoes. The church dates back to at least 1078, and is well worth a visit for its beauty, the view, and its soul-satisfying peacefulness.

Nice cathedral opened after long time of renovation. It is beautifully located above the hill reached from the center of Lugano, halfway to the train station. You can even get a ride with the the funicular and get off halfway at the cathedral at a special stop.
The cathedral is itself nice, not overdone, but with plenty of religious paintings and chapels. From the front you have a nice view of Lugano and access to good shopping, eating, and coffee.

Cattedrale di San Lorenzo (in English: Cathedral of Saint Lawrence) is located in a high part of the city, giving you a great view.
The style of the church is Roman and amazingly a church is known to this location as far back as year 818. It has obviously since then have many faces, becoming finally a cathedral in 1888 with great renovations that ended in 1910.
The inside details are amazing, with dramatic frescoes and beautiful details on the ceilings.
It’s not your most impressive Cathedral, but it’s very worth the visit, the view and the History.

I went in to have a look at this old Cathedral on the way up to the Station. It’s lovely inside but since there was no information in English at all I had no idea really what I was looking at hence hard to really appreciate. Views might be nice but it was raining

If you come to Lugano by train and walk down the path by the funicular you will come to a small piazza. Take the opportunity to take in the views over the lake and visit the church behind you.

Dropped in to this cathedral while walking around the Old Town of Lugano. A great piece of history that has recently been restored. Worth a visit.

I will be in Lugano on a Saturday. Is there a mass that I can attend in the evening or afternoon good for Sunday?
Thank you for your help.
