How to get there and what ticket to buy
We spent a lovely day at the Rheinfall. I prefer to explain what tickets we booked etc. from Schaffhausen we took the train to Neuhausen/Rheifall. Be careful as there are 3 stations: Neuhausen and then Neuhausen Rheinfall and Neuhausen Schloss Laufen. We first took the train to the Rheinfall and went to the miniature museum named Smilestone, it is totally overpriced and not worth the money. Download the SBB app and you can purchase a day ticket for about 6CHF. Existing the train to the right you will find an elevator which goes down to the fall or you can exit left and walk along the waterfall down to the main spot where the boats are. We took the 15min boat for 8CHF and drove very close to the waterfall. The trip was long enough and a great experience, plus the ticket includes the cross over to the castle Schloss Laufen which usually costs 3CHF. We walked up and took the elevator to the castle where we just wandered around and had a sausage. Then we walked down to the cute train station back to Neuhausen as this train crosses the waterfall itself. Check the train schedule as we waited 30min for Theresia to come from Neuhausen to Schaffhausen and we were unable to find the bus stop which is a 6minute from the train station and not sign posted in which direction to go. Generally there were no signs to find the bus stops, so we preferred waiting at the train station.

Really great visit to rhine falls
Stopped here to break up a long journey. Lovely couple of hours spent walking round the falls. Very therapeutic to sit watching the water and hearing the noise. Nice in the sunshine. Plenty of parking. Bit of a steep climb back upto the car park afterwards but it works off the ice cream you may have purchased right near the falls 😜

    Boat trip mandatory
We had to walk a lot but the fort was worth it. Take boat number 5, 30 minute tour with audio guide. The falls were half Swiss and half German so you can say you visited Germany too

    Waterfall
What a beautiful waterfall it’s just amazing. If you walk along the water to the top of the waterfall, you get a great views and some wonderful photo opportunities. If you feel you want to get up close and personal, they have boat tours you can take which look like fun. We chose to walk up and just take pictures. It gets busy and they have only a couple of parking lots the get busy quickly. Definitely worth the visit. The waterfalls are beautiful.

    Beautiful trip from Zurich
Easy to get to by train from Zurich- we bought a daily public transport pass from a ticket machine at Zurich HBF which cost 26 francs and allowed unlimited public transport use from 9am to 5am the next day. The train took about 1 hour each way. We had excellent views of the waterfall and Schloss from the free North side observation areas (approached from Neuhausen Rhine Falls station which is different to Neuhausen station). We managed to fit Rhine falls in with plenty of other activities on the same day as the transport pass also covers lake cruises and the polybahn. Great day out.

Great activity with children, or day trip from Zurich
Great drive from Zurich if you enjoy scenery…finding the waterfalls is not difficult, and when we arrived (10-11 am) finding a parking spot was not difficult (can be paid with cash only). The hike to the waterfalls was not difficult. The place was crowded, but enjoyable. We did not do the boat cruise but people were certainly having fun. Going up and down the multiple steps can get tiring for the elderly and very young children…we arrived on a rainy day, so it was slippery too. The courtyard by the castle offered food trucks and the typical Swiss sausages, but you can bring your own picnic like I did with my children. We enjoyed the experience!

    Great DIY out
This is so easy to DIY from Zurich, just get a train to neuhausen rhinefalls and the moment you step off the train you see the falls. Allow 3 hours to fully see everything, we were there quite early before the coachloads arrived. Then take a pink boat 30 min lake tour which takes you to the falls. We then took a mini train to schaffausen and from there we took a train to lake Constance in Germany. Its a whole day out for the price of a tour all by train.

    Must see
It was a great experience. Beautiful and peaceful. The falls are a sight to behold. Standing on the platforms upclose to water is a memorable experience. The boat ride (especially the one with audio guide) is highly recommended.

    Family fun at falls
Enjoyed by all three generations - my parents, teens and us. Boating trip is a must. For Indian food lovers, there is a snack shop with indo-chinese, fish and chips, masala tea etc. But after experiencing Niagara, falls seems small but great spot for the whole family

    Spectacular
Well worth a visit to see these spectacular waterfalls. I met some locals the previous evening who recommended that I access the falls on the Schloss Laufen side for the best up close views. Seems they were right..Car parking was 5 Euro and access down to the viewing platforms was also 5 Euro. You can still see the falls without paying but the 5 Euro is well worthwhile spending...and you can ponder who and how the viewing platforms were made! There is a lift up and down and then you need to walk to the viewing areas. But it's easy enough to walk both ways though on an easy track. I didn't bother with the boat ride..to get up close on the viewing platforms was good enough for me. Of course there are bigger, wider, or higher waterfalls elsewhere in the World ...but in my opinion the Rheinfalls are very worthwhile seeing in their own special way.

A very beautiful waterfall that can be appreciated both from a distance and up close. You can make reservations in advance for a boat excursion, and then decide how long of a cruise you would want to take. They will take you quite near to the waterfall, and some of them will even go downstream a little bit, giving you the opportunity to see the cascade in its entirety. In addition, there is a restaurant where you can eat; however, you will need to make reservations in advance.

The falls are impressive from the side, but they are event better from a boat. We went on the out and back cruise.

Great experience and only a short train ride from Zurich. Lovely park area to view the falls. You can go to both sides across a bridge and get new prospective.

From our base in Zurich, this was just a train ride away. There are two stops you can get off at, to see the southern side and the northern side. Both sides are worth a visit.

At the southern side walk off the train and you see a queue of people waiting to buy tickets for the observation deck. These cost 5 CHF and can be paid for by card.

Stunning scenery and the falls are magnificent.

Boat trips (15 minutes and 30 minutes long) are available if you want to get up close to the falls.

At the northern side there is no ticket cost, you just get off the train and walk towards the falls. Plenty of benches all round to sit and enjoy the spectacular scenery on offer.

I’ve been to several major waterfalls. Some have been more impressive visually (e.g. Iguazu) but I have never felt anything as powerful as the Rhine Falls. It’s a combination of the volume of water and your proximity to it. It’s exhilarating.

We took a direct train from Zurich which took 45 minutes. You get off within yards of the falls.

Signage is almost nonexistent which causes some confusion. Also, you have to buy a ticket to access certain vantage points which is both annoying and confusing. These issues pale in comparison to the thrill of experiencing the falls, however.

We took an afternoon tour of the falls and could not have asked for better. The water was so spectacular and so many places to view the falls. Took the boat ride and it was so cool. Gets you right up to the falls, so you can feel the power of the water and hear the roar of the powerful thundering water as it goes over the falls. The entire area is clean and so well kept and with places to get a snack and lots of places for kid to be able to play and run about. This is a park like sitting but with a great chance to see what mother nature can create. So glad we did this. Great for the entire family.

It’s hard not to admire this wonderful work of nature. Feel free to go nearer the falls for different vantage points. Boating will be fine. Several shops and kiosks are nearby. Definitely one of Europe’s best.
