The Abbey Library St. Gallen, famous for its beautiful baroque hall, is one of the oldest libraries in the world. And it holds one of the most important manuscript collections in Europe, especially for the Carolingian and Ottonian period from the 8th to the 11th century. The collection is presented to the visitors in changing and thematised expositions. The library forms the central part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Convent of St. Gallen.

This library is a hidden Paradies for historical interest people. Located near to the famous cathedrale of St.Gallen, just few steps and you find handwritten books which are hunderds of years old. What a place!

The church and library are both spectacular to see and well worth a visit if you're in the area. Get an audio guide if possible

Unfortunately taking photographs is not allowed. Other than that it was very quiet and almost no other visitors so i could really sink into the spirit of history.

Worth the trip to St Gallen to see the Library and surrounds. The history and accumulated knowledge in the Library impressive and thought provoking. Also a good opportunity to meander through the town.

I loved the overwhelming finishing touch of the Library. It is on a level I never seen before. There is Mummy in The Library and some very rare book, worth over 20 million Euro's.

We visited the library this Sunday and were impressed by the amazing collection of books as well as the atmosphere from the room. I would suggest to take an audio guide to understand better the place since they are few written explanations. A place worth...More

It cost 12 CHF to see the library. It's very small, and you can't take pictures inside, flash or otherwise. It's pretty, but there are plenty of places you can see for free that are more beautiful. Just visit the St. GAllen cathedral. It's much...More
