The view is just marvelous! The journey up to the mountain by cogwheel is probably the most scenic i have ever experienced. The best part is that is fully covered by Swiss Rail Pass if you do get one.More

While it was overcast at the base, by the time we were to the peak it was sunny and blue skies. The valley below was full of clouds, looking like a blanket of snow for as far as the eye could see. Absolutely breathtaking!

Took a cog-wheel train up from Arth Goldau to Rigi Kulm and took a cable car down to weggis. Both rides offer spectacular scenery, even on a winter day. Great hiking options on top of the mountain. A good restaurant to eat at as well....More

I stay in Switzerland several weeks each year and always go to the top of the Rigi to behold the view and walk down. Take a cable car halfway and then a train the rest of the way, about a mile up. It's incredibly popular...More

We went by boat from Lucerne to Vitznau, where we got of and boardered the train. Beautiful scenery.

There was fog below and I was worried that it might hamper the view but suddenly as i took the cog wheel train, it emerged from the fog and lo and behold, the view was stunning!

From what I remember the older Vitznau railway to Rigi is not as steep compared to other cars in Switzerland. It's actually quite gentle in slope from what I remember.
