There are a couple of ways, note that these are available only from May to October. You can either do a full golden round trip taking a paddle steamer from Lucerne to Alpnachstad and there you disembark and cross the road to take the steepest cog-wheel train in the world up to Mount Pilatus. You can then come back down the other side by aerial cable car to Kriens from where you can take a bus back to Lucerne. Alternatively, you can take the bus to Kriens and do a return trip on the cable car, or take a boat to Alpnachstad and take a return trip on the cog-wheel train.
