Open to discoverers. Experience in interesting and diverse ways the development of transport and mobility by road, rail and water as well as in the air and outer space - yesterday, today and in the future. Technical achievements enable us to be mobile and shape our lives. It is only the mental agility of tinkerers, inventors and explorers that has made people as mobile as they are today. The fascinating history of transport and its vehicles together with their socio-political effects on our culture are the key themes of the Swiss Museum of Transport. More than 3000 objects displayed in an area exceeding 20,000 m² are witnesses to a moving history in the most literal sense and point to future challenges in the field of transport and mobility. Filmtheatre - The largest screen in Switzerland: Spending 40 minutes exploring a strange world, seeing the very small in close up, the very large in its true size and experiencing a whole new film dimension. Planetarium: Travel with us through the realm of the stars. No matter what the outside weather, with state-of-the-art technology we will conjure up an impressive starry sky on the dome of our planetarium. Experience an unforgettable space walk from the comfort of your armchair. Since its opening in 1969, the Swiss Museum of Transport Planetarium has been a source of fascination for young and old. Beneath the 18m dome, (projection area 508 m2) you will experience a breathtaking starry sky and discover the principles and the latest research findings from the world of astronomy. This, the only large planetarium in Switzerland, belongs to an exclusive circle able to depict dome-filling moving pictures on its 508 m2 area. The Swiss Chocolate Adventure is a new theme world that allows the visitor to learn interesting facts about the discovery, origin, production and transport of chocolate. Seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting: this multimedia voyage of discovery appeals to different senses. It illustrates the entire value creation and transport chains from the cultivation of the cocoa bean and the transport to Switzerland up to the manufacture and sale of the finished chocolate product.

This is a first class exhibition, all aspects of planes, ships and trains on display in several large halls. There was also a car exhibition but this was closed when we visited. The entrance fee is quite expensive at 30SF per adult but then everything is expensive in Switzerland. Unfortunately we timed our visit at the local schools half-term so... More

This museum is attracting visitors from all around the globe. And it's definitely worth visiting if you staying in Luzern. You can spend a whole day there and still come back another time.

Late entry is offered at 50% discount after 3pm which is great if you are just there for a short while. There is a terrific playground for children just over the road outside the lido complex- just turn left when you leave the museum and it is close to the verkeshaus ferry stop!

I remember the Swiss Museum of Transport when I was a kid. It's been fifteen years that I want to visit this museum again so we went there with some friends. The ticket price is very high and the quality of the museum was so so except if you are a kid. In fact I think this museum is more... More

The Swiss Transport Museum is an interesting spot to visit for people interested in Swiss transportation history. There is as well an exhibition of the Swiss artist Hans Erni.

Happy place because aside from being Switzerland's most popular museum and the largest of its kind in the continent, the Swiss Chocolate Adventure is also in the building! This was not in our original itinerary but the weather was not cooperating that day for a trip to the Alps so we had to visit this place instead. It was fun... More

This is a museum that you can spend all day in. It's wonderful for kids, big and small, and adults alike. They have a fantastic, newly renovated Space exhibition, complete with a mission to Mars.

The transport museum is much more than a simple display of articles / items. It is an interactive experience which can only be felt on the visit. It is so huge that we couldnt finish the entire museum in full day. This was also as we had taken additional few activities - the chocolate factory visit and a movie which... More
