Open to discoverers. Experience in interesting and diverse ways the development of transport and mobility by road, rail and water as well as in the air and outer space - yesterday, today and in the future. Technical achievements enable us to be mobile and shape our lives. It is only the mental agility of tinkerers, inventors and explorers that has made people as mobile as they are today. The fascinating history of transport and its vehicles together with their socio-political effects on our culture are the key themes of the Swiss Museum of Transport. More than 3000 objects displayed in an area exceeding 20,000 m² are witnesses to a moving history in the most literal sense and point to future challenges in the field of transport and mobility. Filmtheatre - The largest screen in Switzerland: Spending 40 minutes exploring a strange world, seeing the very small in close up, the very large in its true size and experiencing a whole new film dimension. Planetarium: Travel with us through the realm of the stars. No matter what the outside weather, with state-of-the-art technology we will conjure up an impressive starry sky on the dome of our planetarium. Experience an unforgettable space walk from the comfort of your armchair. Since its opening in 1969, the Swiss Museum of Transport Planetarium has been a source of fascination for young and old. Beneath the 18m dome, (projection area 508 m2) you will experience a breathtaking starry sky and discover the principles and the latest research findings from the world of astronomy. This, the only large planetarium in Switzerland, belongs to an exclusive circle able to depict dome-filling moving pictures on its 508 m2 area. The Swiss Chocolate Adventure is a new theme world that allows the visitor to learn interesting facts about the discovery, origin, production and transport of chocolate. Seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting: this multimedia voyage of discovery appeals to different senses. It illustrates the entire value creation and transport chains from the cultivation of the cocoa bean and the transport to Switzerland up to the manufacture and sale of the finished chocolate product.

Perfect rainy day solution as there is so much to do here. Incredibly expensive if you do everything (especially as us brits are used to free museums) but the quality is excellant. I wouldn't bother with the choc experience (very dull) or the film as these are extra but the planetarium is great (check the programs). The interactive kids exhibits... More

It's a one of its kind place. Must see in Luzern. Very informative and thought provoking. Takes usually 2-3 hrs. Reaching there is very easy with 6,8,24 no buses from Luzern. Bust stop is bang beside. There is a beautiful lakefront which one must not miss.

Many areas for transport fans including aviation, train, automobiles, etc. Can easily spend 3-4 hours here. Tips to save money: buy ticket after 4pm and get it at CHF15 per ticket.

You could spend several days in this museum and not see everything. There is an IMAX theater, a planetarium, the Swiss Chocolate Adventure and just about any kind of mode of transportation you can think of on display here. Some things are under cover but there is a lot to see outside as well. There are many kinds of trains... More

Great place to spend the whole day with the kids, lots to see & do; best arriving from the lake by boat & at the end of the day take in the 3D IMAX cinema. NB: Can get a little crowded in the Summer.

The museum is easily reachable by public transportation from Lucerne main station (about every 5 minutes), or by boat (about every 30 minutes). A large car park is also available. Be prepared to spend some time there, learning and enjoying yourself !! We spent the day there with a group of 8 adults + 4 kids (aged 1 to 5),... More

Brilliant! Lots of activities for the kids, both outdoor and indoor. Boat, mini-train (need to purchase train tickets) rides were fun. There are also scooters in the outdoor for children. The helicopter simulator was a bit boring, didn't worth the queuing time I think. Children liked the mirror maze the best, went in >10 times, being silly and bumping into... More
