After our lunch at the Engelberg Alpenclub and learning that the cheese used in our fondue came from the local monastery, we had to go see it. This is Switzerland’s only publically accessible artisan cheesemaking production within a monastery. Inside the monastery store, we watched cheese being hand-produced and regional milk being crafted into specialities, such as the famous “Engelberger Klosterglocke.” The monastery was built in 1120 and to date there are still approximately 30 monks living and working there. Very interesting place to visit in Engelberg.

An imposing building with a fascinating ecclesiastical and political history. And the cafe has a live cheese-making demonstration.

I went to this church during a visit to Engelberg, it is attached to the Monastery. The architecture and decoration are impressive, well worth a visit. Recommended.

Took a train trip from Lucerne, which was nice and not too much money, but they DO NOT make cheese for the public, in July 2022, even though advertised as such.
They have a nice shiny 'display' where they used to have demonstrations, but the lady at the counter said they hadn't had public show for a while (not sure how long)
Nice cheese shop if you want to buy.
Pretty sure they DO make cheese on the premises (we say pallets and other 'factory like' things), but not to observe.
So, be careful if you take a trip here for that purpose.
The town is a nice short walk. EVERYTHING appears to be geared to hiking and biking easily accessed directly from the town

Walking around in Engelberg we visited this old Catholic Church. Very impressive. The typical style of Catholic church architecture. Stayed there with the kinds for an hour and filled up the rather empty Spiritual batteries of mine. Nice place to light a candle.

We escaped a white out while skiing Titlis and walked down to the Engelberg Monastery to watch the cheese making and to see if we could join a tour the tours are only at 4 pm, only on weekdays and are only in Swiss German. There is a low fee and they do give English speaking guests written guides. However it was very apparent the written guide did not include everything on the tour-no details on the art work or explanation of the diorama. But the woodwork in the Room of Virtues and the gorgeous Abbey are worth the effort and price of admission. We also did a lovely herbed cheese fondue at the Monastery cheese shop. Great break from the weather and it made for a picturesque day.
We also asked a very friendly Brother what time Sunday Masses were held (9:30 am and 11:00 am). We attended and it was lovely though again we couldn't understand a lick of it.

In Engelberg, amid the beautiful Apls you might want to visit this peaceful and beautiful attraction. The church is famous for its beautiful interiors and settings. It is located toward the end of town and we visted this place post Mount Titlis visit, in the evening.
There is a small cheese shop attached to it.

Came to Engleberg to go to summit of Mt. Titlis. That was awesome. Saw in Fodor's guide that there was an Abbey in Engelberg so walked thru the town (very nice) to the Abbey and went inside. We did not see anyone else there and most of it seemed locked but could go in main church area. If you have the time, was a nice walk on a nice day.

The peace, tranquility and beauty of this church is unique. My wife and I just sat inside with no other visitor. It had such a calming and soothing effect.
