Built between 1903 and 1910 by Genevan architect Marc Camoletti, with the aim of regrouping under one roof a number of dispersed public collections, the Musée d'art et d'histoire is one of Switzerland's most important encyclopaedic museums. Boasting over half a million objects including a number of major works and unique series that have made it an institution of international stature, the museum maintains a permanent exhibition of a selection of itsapplied arts, fine arts and archaeology collections. Regional archaeological discoveries, Egyptian and Classical antiquities, artworks, furniture, arms, musical instruments, paintings and sculptures all bear witness to 15,000 years of history. A renovation and enlargement project is currently underway and constitutes one of the major challenges facing the Museum over the coming years.

This is a nice place to visit on a weekend. The museum has a complete floor dedicated to art and sculptures. Moreover, other floors contains antiquities and artifacts from different civilizations and time periods. There's also a cafeteria and an open-air seatings. If you are coming by a car, the nearest place to park is Saint-Antoine parking, where the elevator... More

Free entry, lots to see even though a couple of sections were closed. Interesting insights into Swiss artists.

This is a wonderful museum. It offers so much art work from various artists from different periods of history. Also, it has wonderful sculptures of various Greek and Roman Gods and leaders. Located in the center of Geneva.

Although this museum is worth going to ,it's free, there is really not much that is special. A lot of areas are not air conditioned and some are closed The Holders are numerous although I didn't find them very special There is a small impressionist collection The most impressive area was the weapons collection

Really fantastic, national art museum. Full of gems in all contemporary styles, but perhaps my favorite (and what they consider to be their jewel in the crown) is a painting called The Miraculous Draft of Fishes by Konrad Witz. This is widely considered to be the first topographically accurate painting produced in the western world. The museum is very much... More

One of the nicest museum I've ever visited, it's free and very quiet atmosphere , not crowded , you can take your time enjoying all kinds of art archeology and history. To be strongly recommended.

If in Geneva this summer and you like contemporary art this is a small but very well curated show at the museum. Does not take long as there are only three halls but every piece is interesting. The rest of the Musuem is also interesting especially if you like fine art; some very beautiful painting from lesser artists. The restaurant... More

Entrance to the museum is free of charge but entrance to temporary exhibition is charged. I love the art museum especially with the audio guide that can be loaded on an app. Didn't just learn aboutt the art but also the history behind the pieces! Also went to the history section in the museum but didn't quite enjoy it as... More
