We really enjoyed our visit to Bern. Beautiful gardens, river walks, and history. The town does seem to close up every evening around 6pm so if you are wanting to shop, do it early.

Old Town Bern is not like some old towns with squares and character. There are some cool buildings and the clock tower is unique, but mostly it is a shopping area. It is worth a visit but doesn't measure up to many other old towns...More

Great nightlife where the city's restaurants and bars move into the street for a vibrant night life. The streets are closed to local traffic and you can walk the streets, with music and street performers.

We walked through the cobble stoned path dodging the cable buses and onto the bridge following signs for the Bear Park (which we thought was a play area) and just when we got on the bridge underneath was no river flowing but an old town!...More

I enjoyed walking around the old city. Lots of cloistered streets with restaurants, cafes and shops. Even the basements open up as bars. Watching the children jump in the river one side of town and drifting with the current, getting out the the other side....More

This place is great to wander around, only downside is that it is full of tourists but all the shops are shut on sundays. Our fault for not checking. Certainly a place for clothes shopping.

I didn't think this Old Town was anything particularly special for Europe, but it was a nice area to walk through nonetheless. If you arrive via the main train station, it's definitely worth walking through. The fountains alone are pretty interesting to look at.

My husband and I had very tight schedule so we did not have time to slow admire the Old Town at leisure. We probably spent about 1-2hr just walking within the Town and just admiring places. Overall impression? It looked "old" and charming with the...More

The Tourist Office in the main railway station has plenty of free maps and guides and also does free or very cheap guided walks , recommended. They also speak good English and are very helpful. It is a safe city to walk... More

Hey- you can drive. I'd recommend parking at the Bahnhof and then exploring the town centre on foot. There is plenty to see in the central area, all within walking distance (the Bundeshaus, Zytglogge, Nydeggkirche etc). My... More

2 or 3 days would be good but if you really want to relax and enjoy some of the fine eateries as well as soak up the atmosphere try for 4 to 5 days.
