We enjoyed driving through Bern. Flowers everywhere and beautiful river flowing through town. We were there over a weekend and found it to be very nice and quiet.

The old town is walkable for people even with mild energy levels. Besides, trams run everywhere, so hop one if you get tired. See the clock at 3 minutes before the hour. Note the sequence of events for the chiming. Walk the main plaza and...More

Lovely city in the old town to walk around. We did a loop of the highlights in about 3 hours. Enjoyed taking pics with the different statues of the Bernese mountain dogs, (pics on Instagram, Alexandra.garcia66), and crossing the bridge over the Aare river.

Absolutely a great place to visit. Easy to walk through, with lots of eating, drinking and shopping options. Take time to go to the cathedral and hang out in the adjacent park!

Old town Bern isn't that large so one can cover it completely on foot. Some interesting architecture and nice shops.

You can walk to the old town and spend lot of time there. What a wonderful walk it reminds me of. The old town walk also has Albert Einstein's home at Kramgasse no. 49.

2 or 3 days would be good but if you really want to relax and enjoy some of the fine eateries as well as soak up the atmosphere try for 4 to 5 days.

They have free rentals at the Banhoff (train station) with a deposit of 20 CHF or so. Biking and walking are great alternatives unless it is raining. Safe travels!
