The child eater fountain is - after a story going on - placed on a old Underground corridor which connected a mens and a womens cloister. The fountains signifies that the fruits of sins had to be eliminated............

Small children might find this terrifying. Adults will find it wryly amusing, although it was probably scary when it was created. It's famous but if you miss it, don't worry.

The lots of fountains that are found along the main old city street are just ineresting, nothing special, they just add a color to the street... but this one....can't understand why such a theme could inspire the creation of a fountain... quite wierd....

If for no other reason I had to see the fountain that some knucklehead wrote a scathing 1-star review of, describing the statue as an “eyesore”. It’s a statue FFS. Tongue in cheek or otherwise, it’s a great fountain/ statue to visit! Here’s to baby...More

This fountain is right outside the Kornhausekeller and has a lot of intricate details. It’s a bit shocking given what the statue is doing but it’s also one of the most popular. The great thing about all the fountains in Bern is you can drink...More

This freaky sculpture over the historic fountain, has been in Bern since the 16th century! There are many theories as to what the sculpture actually means! And it is fun to find all the fountains in the town - they are easy to find and...More

We saw this bizarre statue/water fountain as we walked up the main street. It was not worth a separate visit, and I thought it was, well...just plain strange. Not much else to say about it.

One of the most interesting of the medieval fountains, conjuring up curious ideas of how medieval families gave their children nightmares. But all the fountain statues are worth seeing - Moses by the Münster, Justice in the lower old town. But if you only have...More

One of the best preserved fountains but not to be taken too literally. The carving was very well done & I think that this was our favourite fountain.

Personally I was not concerned nor upset by the subject of this fountain but rather I saw it as a depiction of a fairy tale. We all have read the tales of the wicked witch who eats children, or the wicked wolf or giant, etc....More

The child eater statue has many myths or tales behind it which makes it extremely interesting. Actually it is said to be a statue to scare children which really works.
