The Bernisches Historisches Museum is one of the most important Museums of cultural history in Switzerland. The collections of archaeology, history and ethnography include approximately 500,000 objects dating from the Stone Age to the present and representing cultures from all over the world. The hydria from Grächwil, the Burgundian tapestries, the diptych from Königsfelden and a series of ethnographical objects as well as coins and medals are all internationally renowned. Besides these, other highlights of the permanent exhibitions include the spectacular Bernese sculptures, two Bernese mayoral thrones and much more. The integrated Einstein Museum offers an account of the life and work of the physicist and places it in a fascinating manner in the context of world history. Temporary exhibitions are regularly staged in the generously proportioned exhibition hall.

We visited only the Einstein exhibition and it was well worth the entry price. Although we are both physicists, so of course the man was of some interest to us. The exhibition focuses on his personal life and historical setting, with a little bit of explanation of the theory of special relativity. The staircase leading to the exhibition was simply... More

Really - I do love Einstein; always keen to see and read about him but the Historical Museum in bern does it a bit too much. You do would expect to see simply more than 50% Einstein and the rest "bit boring". Bern is what 800 years old - the capital of one of the most developed countries in the... More

I'm writing a review because the Tourist Info center in Bern advised us not to visit this museum unless we speak German, but we went anyway because we were in the area and it was raining outside. The TI could not have been more wrong; there were definitely a few exhibits that were missing English translations but for the most... More

Fascinating and informative place, esp., for my American friend not used to clay and other old stuff to watch. Go for it is all I can say and let yourself be surprised by the Past!

It is well worth a few hours especially in winter, to look through this museum. We spent the most time in the Albert Einstein exhibition. It was fantastic with many displays and personal memorabilia belonging to this great scientist. We learned a lot.

Bern is another living Museum; a typical old town where history blow your mind. High five to Einstein :)

Spent 3 hours just visiting the permanent exhibition on the life of Einstein which was informative and very well presented. Really gave you good insight into his life and personality as well as his achievements and struggles. It's not the easiest exhibition to navigate but there are numbers to follow. Recommend the audio guide as it really enhances the experience.... More

This is a must see. Much of this is dedicated to Einsteins life and what he did during the Hitler reign. Take time to read all of the information available. It provides some insights into what he was doing during that time and his regrets and what he did for many of the Jews. It's great education for open minded... More

The Einstein Museum is on the top floor of the Bern Historical Museum and requires a separate entry ticket. At CHF13 per adult it is not cheap when you consider that much of what is on display relates to the era in which Einstein lives and not specifically about him or his life.
