The cathedral has nothing special, but the fronton at the main gate. Good view of the city from the top of the tower bell.

If you have been to other European Cathedrals, you will notice how bare and minimal the inside of this cathedral is. On a glance it might not even appear to be worth a visit compared to the splendor and brilliance of other cathedrals. Yet, the true story here is driven by what is NOT here. According to multiple sources including... More

This cathedral is located in the old town of bern and is well know for its sculptures and stained glasses. Photography is prohibited within the cathedral, but if you are fit enough you can climb thru narrow steps (chargeable) and have a breath taking view of the city from the top.

There are quite a lot of steps before you get to the top however the view once there is well worth it. Being the highest build was great to look down on the surrounding streets and roof tops. At only 5 franc's is also good value

But worth it for the views from the top, especially on a clear day. The views of the distant mountains are stunning, and it's fabulous to see the rest of the town from the top of the cathedral.

As of March 2017, the choir and apse with their fine vaulted ceiling, the best stained glass, and the famous sculpted choir stalls are under restoration and not open to the public, but you can still see the impressive nave, the organ, and the facade sculpture showing the Last Judgment and the virgins, wise and foolish, who did or didn't... This Gothic cathedral has the most spectacular facade...a depiction of the Last Judgment rendered in stone. You will not have trouble recognizing the saints from the sinners in this depiction. There are also Wise Virgins and Foolish Virgins. Hum? On a walk around the city do not miss this creation.

This cathedral did not have the pomp and richness of cathedrals in France but I liked it nevertheless. It was decorated quite simply and tastefully inside and decorated with the Edelweiss pattern in some parts of the ceiling.

The cathedral of Bern is very beautiful and the square is crowded due to the church. If the weather is good, go up on the tower if this amazing Church, it gives spectacular views of the city from the top. Glimpse of history, glass windows and the arch of the entrance is so amazing.
