Well worth a stop to breath the air of this beautiful lake. So peaceful and scenic. There were many people who were visitors staying a couple days and it is well worth doing if you have the time.

Perhaps the most under-rated lake in all Italy, a pure joy to visit. Drive around it, swim in it, visit the small towns and their fascinating shops. Most of all, take the ferry from Passignano and take in the delights of the island of Maggiore, itself a great day out.

Although we visited the lake in mid-September when there was precious little going on, it made a pleasant day out. We drove right round the lake stopping off at Castiglione del Lago to visit the old town and have a light lunch at a delightful family run pizzeria, Bar 111, which I have reviewed elsewhere. The medieval fortress is worth... More

We visited the town of Castiglione del Lago, which is on Lake Trasimeno. Had a wonderful afternoon walking around town, not as touristy as other towns in the region, lots of little stores and restaurants. Really enjoyed the day.

You have to search around to find beaches but great once you find them. It's massive and wet and that!

We caught the ferry from the pretty medieval village of Passignano on the north shore of this vast lake, to the largest of 3 nearby islands. The trip took around 20 minutes each way, giving beautiful views of the surrounding hills & lakeside villages. Isola Maggiore is a great place to spend a couple of hours, following one of the... Nice as an alternative to the beach but nothing special. The trip to isola majore is nice but the island itself is not really a must see

We watched the changes over several days and visited the lakeside for dinner on two evenings . Good fish menus can be found and lively eating places all around the lake. Would have liked to spend more time exploring the lake by boat .
