This is the historic centre of Perugia and the best starting place to explore the city. Even if you are on a very tight itinerary, you will want to spend some time here.
The main sights in the piazza are:
i) Palazzo Dei Priori - a 14th century fortress-like palazzo with a giant bronze griffin and lion guarding its doors. It houses the National Gallery and although we didn’t have time to do this, it was free to go into the lobby where we could see replicas of the griffin and lion up close.
ii) Sala Dei Notari (free) - part of the Palazzo dei Priori, with elaborate frescoes featuring coats of arms of wealthy and powerful Perugian families. Disappointingly, we missed out on this. It wasn’t obvious and we didn’t realise it was there until too late.
iii) Duomo / Cathedral - an unusual cathedral, with a strange facade. The pink and white marble tiling is unfinished and the front entrance faces away from the piazza. From the Piazza IV Novembre, you only see the side. Inside, a curious highlight is the “Santo Anello” (the wedding ring of the Virgin Mary). Free entry.
iv) Fontana Maggiore - a magnificently ornate marble fountain built in 1278 which takes centre stage in the piazza.
v) Loggia - A minor sight, this is the arched verandah-like attachment along the side of the cathedral. Look for the ‘Stone of Justice’, an inscription which records the cancellation of the public debt in 1234. Free entry.
NOTE: Activities are sometimes held in the square. When we were there, an outdoor promotional basketball competition was being held. The temporary courts and trucks detracted from the ancient feel of the piazza but it was fun to watch the night-time games.

Definitely the main and most important square in central Perugia.
With the San Lorenzo Cathredal at the Northern side, the Palace of the Archbishop (East side) and the museums (Palazoo dei Priori and National Gallery of Umbria) at the Southern side of the squere.
In the middle is the Fontana Maggiore.

Piazza IV Novembre is the heart of Perugia and you will walk past it to the various streets and small alleys that wind their way down to below the town.. It has the Fontana Maggiore , a 1274 fountain built to celebrate the arrival of water via an aquaduct and the impressive cathedral and many other historic buildings.

The square itself is a gem. In this square you will find almost all the most interesting tourist attractions of Perugia: Cattedrale di San Lorenzo with a Virgin's wedding ring relic inside, Palazzo dei Priori, Fountain Maggiore, Etruscan well... It's definitely worth visiting. Definitely worth a visit, everyone will find something interesting here.

This is the center of Perugia. We simply walked up and down the main road and then stayed at the Piazza, grabbing a local sandwich, and just relax.

a small piazza which is cute nonetheless. Don't think you will be spending a lot of time here, as there isn't much to see.

We were here over Xmas and the piazza had lots of stalls selling trinkets and food, as well as live music. Fontana Maggiore is in the middle of the piazza, but a lot of stuff was being renovated/restored. Despite this, we really enjoyed it, lots of places to eat and drink. Perugia town Center is very cute and very walkable.

… the highligt of the day. After the visit of Asisis the day before, then in general Perugia was a bit of a disappointment.
Been there, didn’t get the T-Shirt. Asisis any day.

We took the escalators from the ground level to reach to the top Old Town area.
The date November 4th and the statue of King Emanuele are both important in Italy.
There are impressive medieval stone buildings that stood tall around the piazza.
Keep walking and there are more monumental buildings and churches
