A visit to Gubbio without going up to the Basilica of Sant' Ubaldo is just wrong. The Basilica, along with the museum upstairs tells the history of both Sant' Ubaldo and the Festa dei Ceri... And the view from there is nothing short of amazing.

After a trip up the mountain on the funivia, this church is definitely worth a look for its stained glass alone. The panels depict scenes from the life of St Ubaldo - the patron saint of Gubbio - whose mummified remains lie in a glass...More

We visited after enjoying a ride on the funicular. The Basilica is so beautiful. The stained glass windows are spectacular. The Ceri are kept here. This is a very special place.

It's about 40 minutes to hike up. Or you can take the funicular, which was not working on the day i went. The view is beautiful and the walk was really good exercise. The locals do it for the exercise. It's a very peaceful church.

It's a longish and steep 4k walk to the Basilica but the views are good and the Basilica is interesting. If you don't fancy the walk there's always the funicular but frankly I'd prefer to walk after having seen it - sort of 2 person...More
