Let me start by saying you must go through security before entering...no backpacks, metal objects, etc. Also, no photography once you enter the basilica...too bad there are so many who can't or won't respect this simple rule. There are two parts to this amazing church--an...More

Beautiful basilica dated from XIII century. The most amazing are frescoes, one of the best in the world.

We visited late in afternoon was very hot. Heavy security presence. No large bags allowed. We had an excellent local guide that did a great job of explaining the frescos and the history of the Basillica. This is an amazing place.

Wonderful Basilica housing the tomb of St Francis. Frescoes by Giotto depicting his life. I would highly recommend the audio guide which explains everything very thoroughly, including the smaller chapels. Don't miss St Francis Hermitage in the mountains about 4kms out of town to experience...More

As an art history enthusiast, I've always wanted to go to Assisi and see the Giotto frescoes. I was not disappointed- the basilica is wonderful. We got there early as it gets very busy later in the day as coaches arrive. It still felt very...More

This Basilica is not only beautiful, but so serene and holy as well. I purchased an AP on iTunes for this Basilica before we went, and actually used the AP to learn a great deal about the history and story of the Basilica. The Tomb...More

This church symbolises the change in art where Giotto creates the life of San francis using three dimension and expression. You can also see his master Cimabue at the alter that then leads on to the change incredible absolutely recommended with a private guide only

The basilica is worth a visit if in the area. Seeing the tomb of St Francis, the beautiful church and the frescoes in the upstairs basilica filled a half day for us on a quick tour. We self toured, but plenty of tour groups there...More

The basilica is the highlight of the town of Assisi which is a medieval town still relatively untouched by modern architecture. The church is very ornate and decorative and an excellent example of the middle ages.Allow a whole day for the church and town.

We are driving there on Sunday 4/30. We thought we would first visit Santa Maria Degli Angeli and attend mass. My questions are: 1) where should we park for Santa Mari Degli? 2) where should we park for Basilica Assisi? 3) Is there any way to arrange a tour on 4/30 with a friar? There will be 4 in our family. Thank you very much.
