Great history, easily accessible, wonderful town plenty to see with easy parking if travelling there by car. The locals are very friendly in the bars and restaurants.

I am not one that cries very easy but this place from the moment I walked in had such an overwhelming affect on me. I couldn't explain it, maybe my passion for animals and St. Francis himself and what he stood for. I was able to catch the end of a mass and then walked through the church afterwards. If... More

This is an amazing place to see. This took 100 years to build. There are three levels. The upper church, the middle church and then the lower church. Take time to be present and look at the frescoes on the walls. This is quite different from the ornate buildings in Rome but is a very holy place. It is amazing... More

Town was clean. Parking safe. A pretty decent walk to the Basilica. Some folks might need to check into getting help in that area since you can't just drive in due to the restrictions on cars. Tons of nice, little shops and places to eat. The Basilica was magnificent. My favorite day on an eleven day trip to Italy.

We were lucky enough to see the amazing nativity scene outside of this church! Take the time to go down and visit San Francesco's tomb. You will be in awe at how beautiful this church is.

I came to retreat from the Roman loudness and I found peace in this place. The frescos inside the basilica are incredible and to see the wooden cross from St. Francis time was magical. There was a mass going on and the chanting was hypnotic. I went down to the crypt where he is buried with other franciscans and it... More

In our 10 days in Italy Assisi turned out to be our favorite city outside of Rome. We hired a fabulous tour guide and spent more than an hour of the tour learning about the frescos, tomb of St. Francis, his artifacts and the development of the basilica - it truly is a site to behold perched on the edge...
