The Santa Maria degli Angeli is located just around the corner from the train station. The church houses the small chapel that St. Francis preached from. It's truly a moving experience to visit the little chapel. But don't just go for the chapel. Take the...More

On our way to visit the Bascilica Santa Maria degli Angeli a local told us to go into the chapel inside the Bascilica with our hearts not our eyes. And it was worth taking her advice. This little chapel embodies what St. Francesco lived. It...More

A beautiful large church was built over and around the small chapel where St Francis preached and died. The chapel stands silently in the center. The large church is an amazing building with many frescoes and paintings well worth a stop to admire.

This is a beautiful place full of lovely artwork and a very spiritual feeling. It is worth a stop during your visit to the area, and I heartily recommend staying at the nearby fabulous Valle di Assisi Hotel and Spa.

Wonderful church in the lower city. The actual place where St. Francis lived and died. You can see the small church he built that the current church surrounds. Take a little time to visit the rose chapel above Francis' cell.

Beautiful church built over the chapel and death site of st. Francis. The golden st Margaret is quite striking, overlooking the piazza from the top spire
